Only because of the disbelief.

Re: ATF staffing?

I just got my 3 form 1s back today approved. It took just a little over 4 months including having them bounced for no legenth on the forms. Once you quit counting the days since you sent in the paper you will get a suprise in the mail a few weeks later.

+1. The time goes by much quicker if you just simply forget you sent them.

Re: ATF staffing?

I have waited for as long as 9 months and as short as 6 weeks on various different items. Its just a waiting game and how backed up they are. Best thing to do is forget about the item and busy yourself with another project. Then they will show up when you least expect it!

11 people that normally work from home.... They come in once a week to enter forms into their computer system. Thats one of the main reasons they are so slow.

I have 2 ladies in my office that do 100's of invoices and PO's a day. They work from 8-5 and do work. I wish the ATF would get the same mentality when it comes to saying their employees need to work from the office they are paid by.

Just my two cents.

Yep 11 people that only have one arm and lifting restrictions.
One form at a time....

I doubt that working from home is why they're slow, if that's even true.

Background investigations take work. If you want to get on with Border Patrol for instance, it'll take months for the background to come back, and that's handled by contractors who get paid per background.

Majority of class 3 purchases are done on trust nowadays. Trusts dont take background checks.

Working home with no government computer system, approving 50 forms a day.... well times 4 days - that would be like 200 forms to enter on a friday. Thats a lot of work in a short time. They are backed up for a reason.....

Re: ATF staffing?

Yeah, the background check they do to let you have an NFA item is nothing like the background check they do for certain government service. They don't talk to people at every job you've had and every house you've lived in in the past XX number of years to get a suppressor...

Re: ATF staffing?

Going off of the math from above.....

50 forms a day
4 days a week
------------------
200 forms to enter on Friday.

At 2 bills per form.........$40G per week, per examiner. Just running the numbers.......

Yes, all together. When they were bounced they all came folded up in a small envelope. It sounds funny but I was suprised how well they were folded around the pictures. They looked like they were pressed they were so flat and thin. Once I got them back approved they were folded diffrently and right thru the center of the photos?? I am pressing them flat again inbetween to big books so they will lay flat in my nfa folder. It is not a big deal but being as I have to keep them forever I like to keep them as nice as possible.
Now I just need to order some stock and get machining.
