Athlon developed the Cronus 20-60×86 UHD to give you one of world’s best spotting scopes with brighter and clearer edge-to-edge detail. Whether you’re hunting above timberline in Alaska, or birding at sea level at Cape May, you will know every detail of your trophy before you take the shot or mark it off your life list. The Cronus product line has just about every feature you would put in a scope to make it the best you can get in its class. Athlon designed the Cronus with Apochromatic system to give you images that have greater contrast, sharpness, and color definition. They included Extra-Low Dispersion Glass that results in a clearer and sharper image. The state of the art ESP (Enhance Spectral Prism) dielectric coating reflects 99% of the light through the prism assembly. Other design enhancements include BaK-4 prisms and Advanced Fully Multi-coated lenses that deliver flawless color fidelity, ultra-crisp images, and optimum light transmission. Finally Athlon topped it off with their XPL lens coating that protects the exterior lenses from scratches, dust, and anything else mother nature throws at you.

Hey Doug do you know if this cronus model is going to be compatible with athlons removable eye piece reticle?

I saw that they are going to be releasing eye piece reticles for their spotters and was curious if they are only going to work on their newest models ?

After buying Vanguard Endeavor HD 20-60x82 & Celestron Regal M2 20-60x80 spotters over the past several years, I've thought seriously about buying an Athlon Cronus 20-60x86 to find out for myself if doubling the price would result in sharper/better focused images. Still interested, but not sure whether it's worth the price of admission to find out...

Thanks for your opinion Ilya. I'm a slow learner - bought several budget-priced spotters since '86, the 1st being a Tasco World Class 25x60 rubber armored straight body scope, after reading a positive review in the NRA's American Rifleman. Still got that scope; it might've been a bit better optically speaking than an angled body Nikon I bought next from (IIRC) Champions Choice. Finally sold that scope and replaced it with a nicer Kowa 661. Those were all used in NRA hi power matches. Not sure why I bought the Vanguard - guess I figured since it had ED objective, it was going to be a lot better than the Kowa. Was on a roll, so next bought the Celestron...not really much of a step up from the Vanguard, but with the addition of their 27x LER eyepiece, it's better suited for HP shooting. Though neither of these two are exactly el cheapo scopes, they're not much better optically than the Kowa, nor as good as I'd really like to have.

I have not tried the Vanguard, but Regal is a good spotter, although I think the smaller model is comparatively better.

Still, Cronus is definitely a step up.
