I’m looking to compare these 2 scopes since they seem to be similar quality.
I just picked up a 22in weatherby 307 in 6.5 PRC and am looking for a scope I can use for hunting and the occasional competition.
So far my only experience with magnified optics is the vortex viper pst gen 2 2-10 in mils that lives on my mk12 clone that I use for coyotes.

I don't have any experience with either of them but did some research. From my understanding, you'll only end up with a marginally better option if you went with the Viper. If you'd rather save some for ammo and accessories, I'd recommend the Athlon.

Thanks for the information, I ended up going with the Athlon as I was able to get it a good discount for first responders. Now I just have to wait till I get the 307 back from weatherby’ warranty to figure out the proper ring height.

I love the Athlon. It’s so nice in comparison to my vortex pst gen 2 2-10 & my Burris XTR 3 3.3-18. It’s also nice if you have an EV account as the discount made it a no brainer in comparison to how much the Viper PST gen 2 costs even after discount.

I have the 1st gen of this scope , my only negative is its a 1st focal plane scope ,which is fine for punching paper but on low power the cross hair is so thin it's hard to pick up , for a hunting scope that kinda sucks for me , great glass though and I like that there's a off position between each illumination brightness click , IIRC the complaints on the gen one was the turrents were kinda mushy , I haven't noticed that on mine .

I had a G1 and the G3 blows it away and in almost everything. I have $4000 scopes and the turrets in my G3 are at least as good as they are and as far as distinctness even better. The IQ is great for the price but not up to those expensive scopes. The .06 Mil reticle thickness can actually bee seen on lower mag compared to the older one. Like 4x in the G3 compared to 5.5x on the G1 it's looking around the same but a wider FOV on the G3 4x.

This is one of those scopes that I wish I had need for more of them but alas I don't. If it had daylight bright illume I'd flat out sell a portion of my scopes to replace them with it. 2.5x and 15x are sweet spots for low and high in a FFP scope. Can do just about anything here.
