Just recently got the new AICS stock with the spud on the front for the bipod. Is it better to get the atlas with the spud attachment or the one with the adms mount. I would like to switch the bipod to an ar latter on but that would require to buy the rail adapter. I't would be nice to have more than one but not on my budget. Which is better or more useful. Thanks for the help.

Re: atlas bipods

spud = spigot?

Definitely get the V2 spigot attachment and the Atlas V8 - you want the bipod as far out front as it'll go.

I've used a Harris on the stud attachment on my AW - never felt as balanced as using either my original AI/PH or Atlas in the spigot mount.

Just my £0.02

Re: atlas bipods

If you want to switch it to the AR later, then you can either run a rail on the bottom of the AICS or you can get the spigot adapter and rail. Then order the Atlas with the ADM mount and swap them.

However, it will not be as elegant or sleek as just running the Atlas on a Spigot. If it were me, I would just get a different Altas to run on the other rifle as budget allows. In fact that is what I HAVE done. I am saving for an Atlas for the AR10 now.

Re: atlas bipods

I've done exactly as LoneWolf suggests - an Atlas for my AW using the spigot mount and another one for rail mounts using the ADM mount.

IMHO the ADM is a better option than either the ARMS or Larue mounts I've used - the mechanism seems easier to use, doesn'r marr the rifle (which may or may not be a problem for you) but locks the bipod on tight.

Re: atlas bipods

LoneWolfUSMC you are correct in that it is elegant having the spigot mount. Buying another atlas, in the future will require a lot more crying, and when does the crying stop

Exactly.

You can't take it with you. Might as well spend it now.

I give my kids love and support, college tuition is as close as the local Marine Corps Recruiter.
