I was using a RCBS matchmaster and the large tube broke. So far, RCBS has been less than responsive about sending it in for repair, which makes me want to consider an alternative. How is the AutoTrickler V4's mechanical reliability and CS? By this I don't mean accuracy of charge weight, though that certainly matters. I mean how likely is it to break, and if it does how responsive/easy is the company about repair?

This is a good place to buy from if you decide to go that route.

My V4 has never gone down. I have had it since their release. Adam has been responsive to emails in the past. It is accurate if you follow instructions and do not try to run 6 second throws.
I've had all iterations up to and including V3/IP. (which I'm sticking with).

I did have a minor problem at one point (can't remember what it was), e-mailed Adam and he called me back on a Saturday night. Got me fixed right up. Nothing but good things to say about my experiences with him/AT.

edit; I should clarify, I've never had a V4. Only up to and including V3/IP.

I wouldn’t worry about breaking it. However it’s a horrible unit that doesn’t work well enough to justify the cost.

Adam knows this was a subpar product and pushed it out anyways using customers as beta testers.

Stay away from the v4 - I would have rather stayed with two RCBS lite over that. (I eventually went to a v3 + IP). the v4 only works after messing with settings a ton and adding in third party accessories which is not what a product at a premium price point should need.

Oh and did I mention that I hate the v4

What would be your opinion if you had a V4/IP combo, only using the V4 for the bulk drop and then the IP to trickle it up to final?

The v4 isn't that bad at all. Some guys had issues but its way better that any rcbs lite or mainstream thrower. I run bigger powders like n565 n568 ect so I added shims and then a tip and I throw 87 grains 10 to 15 seconds with very little overthrows. Don't be scared of it just make sure you take time to set it up correctly

Probably much better but I never owned both at the same time. The problem with v4 was the large tube would reverse at the end pouring more out and the trickle is just abysmal.
And another example of a V4 not set up properly. Push the transition out, it works just fine. I just ran 150 rounds on mine with 6 over throws. V4 runs great if you set it up right.

Spending a bunch of time testing settings and third party accessories to get it to work right is my issue with a premium priced product.

Can it work right if you fuck with it a ton - probably. Will it work that well in two weeks when you use it again - probably not unless you mess with the settings again.

I spent weeks in emails with Adams trying to get mine to work and everytime we got it working acceptably the next time I used it it sucked again.

What was Adam’s solution? He told me to just not use the .04 window for loads and accept a wider throw. Yeah that’s not why I bought a $600 scale…..

I've been running an AT V4/IP trickler combination for 6 months. Fantastic combination! My drops are within .02 grain 99.9% of the time and easily within 10 seconds per drop.
I have an AT V3/IP trickler combo coming some day (USPS...'nuff said) which I will compare to my V4/IP combo.
I have owned/used every version of Adams AutoTrickler over the years, ALL of them have delivered the results touted by Adam. There was a rising learning curve as the versions progressed but never a problem that this 76 year old analog geezer could not solve. Yeah, I had to dial up Adam a couple of times but he was very helpful and patient every time.
I MIGHT buy an IP dropper IF they ever make it to market and IF they perform as touted which I believe they will judging from how well the IP trickler is working for me but given the combo I have now I may not jump on that bandwagon.

I have talked to Adam a few times via email. He was always courteous and responsive.

I have owned the V3 and now own a V4. Over all, I think the V3 is a superior unit. I bought my V4 strictly due to N570, which simply will not meter thru the V3. Mechanically there really isnt much that can go wrong with either of these units at this point. The V4 did have a few early issues, but that has since been sorted. I dont think he is going anywhere anytime soon as his business is obviously doing quite well.

The V3 gets the nod from me from a pure speed and simplicity standpoint. Turn it on, set the speed and angle on the trickler, set your drop to about 1/2 grain short, and run it. The V4 does require tuning. I currently have tunes for ball, short extruded, long extruded, and road gravel. I think I spent about 2 hours working it all out with CFE-223, 8208 XBR, H4350 and N570. I do get maybe a 5% overthrow rate, but I have the big drum tuned to run quite late in the cycle in an attempt to speed everything up. Id rather throw back a few charges, than wait longer for it to trickle up. I guess Im impatient.

I do think the Ingenuity trickler is a pretty sweet piece of kit, but the cost is gonna push people away when its minimum double the cost of the ATv4.

I have a v4 that I have had for a bit and probably used it to make 3k or so rounds without issue. The only problem I have run into is that occasionally the scale won't connect to the phone app which is fixed by unplugging the scale for a few seconds and plugging it back in.

Overall I like it a lot and don't have any complaints. If mine died today I am not sure if I would buy a replacement or try the IP trickler. I think I would try the IP trickler as the system seems to be a bit of a better mousetrap.

@PatMiles What is your drop time? The original V4 without any upgrades ran 12 to 15 second drops without issue fir me. I have a bunch of not yet releaeed MK upgrades and get 8 to 10 second drops now with my V4. I can run it faster but it starts overthrowing a lot. Curious what the V4 does with the IP.

My drop times run between 8-10 seconds and at .02 grains 99.9% of the time. This is fast enough and accurate enough to keep me happy. The drop times without the IP trickler were around 14 seconds but the accuracy was constantly .5 grain to 2 grains over which had me plucking grains. Once in a while a big overthrow, 3,4,5 grains would happen and you could hear the small tube trying to stop but not able to in time to save the drop.
I firmly believe the IP trickler design is superior to the small rotating tube used in the V4.
I am happy with the drop times and accuracy with the V4/IP trickler combination and don't think I will invest in the IP dropper when it is finally released.
I do have a V3/IP trickler coming which I will play with but I don't think I will be keeping it. I bought it just out of curiosity and at a price that I will be able to sell it at in a heartbeat.

My drop time is probably half with the v3 + ip and the new printed holder system takes up less bench space. I think you might be pleasantly surprised by the v3 with the ip

Waiting for USPS to deliver it, 4 days bouncing around Michigan! I'm looking forward to trying it out. Waiting like a kid at Christmas...a 76 year old kid!
