Just wondering why nobody hear really uses them. I have one for .223 and I think it is a pretty good product.

Im in the market now for a .30 cal can and was thinking about going back to AWC but I dont have any info other then what they tell me. Is there something Im missing about the company? The only thing I have heard about them on the Hide was about thier .50 can and that person was not very happy. Talking with AWC in thier opinion they make the bast can, what company doesnt think that. Im looking for any outside opinions.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Re: AWC can questions

i have more than afew of thier cans.no dissapointment here. i think some people find thier products expensive. my gear gets a good workout and ive had no issues. i did notice recently that they offer the thundertrap in titianium as an option for weight savings.got me thinking i will need one for the 338 i dont have yet.

Re: AWC can questions

AWC makes a good product. They just don't get as much press because in the last 10 years they have made little changes if any to their products while the rest of the competition has been evolving quite rapidly.

It comes down to good and better.....

Re: AWC can questions

My Thundertrap gets used on 223, 300 Whisper and several 308,s. Built like a brick shithouse and I would have zero issues recommending one. I advise looking on John Titsworths site.. Silercerresearch for updated info...

Re: AWC can questions

I have a titanium Thundertrap for my Tubb SpecTacLR in 6XC. I am extremely happy with it. In speaking with several other companies about a their "cans" I was told "just put our 30 caliber can on it you'll be fine". I thought about the concept of a can & didn't want to go that route. AWC was more than happy to make a 6mm can for the Tubb gun. I feel that even with the muzzle it is hearing safe. I will be ordering another Titanium Thundertrapp in 7mm for my GAP's. At the end of the day I am very happy with the product & the service I got. They did say that if it gets scratched just send it back and they will repaint/recoat it free of charge. The guy I talked to was Chris.

Re: AWC can questions

Mike,

My first can was a 30 cal AWC Thundertrap. Back in '99 I was impressed with it. However, after comparing it to several others that I came across on the firing line over the years, I bought a 762 SD from AAC in 2007. The first time I took them both to the range I shot the AAC first then switched to the AWC. After 5 shots behind the AAC without ear plugs, the first shot out of the AWC was so surprisingly louder that I pulled the bolt out and looked down the bore to make sure there wasn't a bullet stuck in the bore before I shot another round (as well as checking for a blown primer).

I was using the same load, just different rifles. The only difference was the can and the 2" in barrel length.

The Thundertrap is built like a tank, but it's an older, heavier, less efficient design and, at the time I bought my 762SD, it was several hundred dollars more. The finish on the AWC has held up much better than the AAC (note the AWC is 10 years old and the AAC is 2 years old). The AWC screw on mount is a little looser now than it was when I got it, just wear and tear I guess. The AAC QD mount has a little play in it, but it's been like that since day 1. Accuracy with both is better than without the can.
