Word on the street is that the M2008 cocking cam/firing pin assy underwent some redesign before being carried over to the M2013.

As most M2008 owners are looking for a lighter bolt lift can anyone shed some light on the differences between the old and new Badger actions?

Is the bolt body the same diameter? Does the M2013 have a solid or a roller-type cocking cam? Different cocking cam geometry? Any and all info/pictures would help.

Its really just a function of the firing pin assembly. The striker and spring us quite different.

The cocking geometry is no different as far as I can tell.

The 2013 bolt fits a 2008 action, but the 2013 striker won't fit a 2008 bolt or vice versa.

The 2013 is a big improvement.

I can't really help you on the differences between the 08 and 13, but from all that i've heard about the 08, the bolt lift was stiff. I'm not sure if it has to do with the spring compression or what but the 13 is darn nice to open up. Bolt body on the 13 is .750" (on the 338 Lapua mag action).

Hodgdon,

Thankyou a ton. It looks like the firing pin shroud and cocking piece are pretty similar if not identical? The only major difference is the firing pin's forward shoulder and the spring itself?

I wonder if tossing a 2013 spring in the 08 would net much progress? It seems like any spring would have MORE compression in the 08 than the 13...

I think a 2013 spring, and some machining on the forward spring seat to match 2013 specs would probably be all you'd need to tune up the 2008.
