Went to a new local range today. It was my 3rd trip there.

Please, new gun owners... learn how to zero your rifles. Search up Youtube... tons of videos on how to do it. Easy-peasy!

To satisfy my curiosity, I looked through my rifle scope and then aimed at the baffles to see how far off I'd have to be... It's WAY off!

If the baffle strikes are happening with a zeroed rifle, then you need to find another hobby!

At the brand new range (only 3 weeks old), there are already baffle strikes! I took these photos and annotated and enhanced.

My guess is most of those are either 1) ND or 2)Guys with a semi trying to show off shooting rapid fire standing and the muzzle climb hits before they realize whats really going on... which could be classified as an ND in a sense. Seen it before at my local range.

That's plausible, too. Though, this range does not allow rapid fire. I would think the RSO would all over that.

The RSO I spoke with (about this) said that the probelm is they don't allow rifles at the 25 yard range, so it forces newbies to try to zero their rifle at the 50 / 100 yard range. The bottom line is that these newbs don't know how to do it. I'm not sure that even letting them do it at the 25 yard range would help that much.

    Fudd gotta zero somewhere :p

But yeah, I went to a range run by the county, once, that had 1/4 steel about every 20 yards as baffles. They were torn up. Didn't go back.
