Wow, I cant believe all the choices of software and Operating systems and devices. I thought I'd get some advice before I buy.
What is the difference in Litz's "Applied Ballistics Mobile app" and "Shooter". They are both on his site.
Can I just get a cheap Android tablet from Walmart to run this stuff?
I know this stuff gets discussed to death but the search function doesn't really pull everthing together. I don't think I want an all in one device like the Kestral w/Horus ATRAG. Some input please

Re: Ballistics Software and Device -First time buyer?

Mucj depends on just what you want the software to do for you. If your only interest is a simple elevation and windage estimate for targets at say 1200 yards or less, pretty much any of the iPhone/Android applets will get the job done. Shooter and Strelock seem to be pretty popular

If you more functionality, like connection to a GPS, LRF, loopholes and other extensive trajectory analysis functions, you'll need a Windows PDA and FFS, Coldbore or ATrag. Our preferred solution here at Gunsite is Field Firing Solutions, but we are after a maximum of functionality for a military sniper team. That's not cheap, and often it's more than a user might require.

So, what do you want it to do, and then, how much do you want to spend?

I'm using a iPhone with MD Ballistics, its easy to recalculate different yardage. Todate my longest shot was 1020yds and the software worked out great.
