Hey chaps,

My friend has a shooting match in a couple of days time at Bisley (uk) and has just loaded up some rounds, but he has no idea of the velocity, and wants to run some ballpark figures thru JBM ballistics calc.

We are going to try to shoot them over my chrono this weekend, but in the meantime, can any of you give a BALLPARK velocity for him?

AR 15, 20" match barrel 1-8 twist,
24.5 grn varget, 77grn scenar molycoats,
lapua full sized brass.

Thanks!
Giles.

Re: Ballpark .223 velocity please?

If you switch to Tac or Benchmark you will probably get around 2850 or real close to Mk262 velocities. I shoot with a guy who is shooting a 20" gasser with TAC and 77s and his gun is running around 2875ish. I shoot the Benchmark and 77s naked and am getting right under 2800fps out of an SPS Tactical

Well we managed to get some range work done last night for him, and x20 shots averaged at 2713 fps with an ES of about 20fps, so he's happy with that

we recorded his MOA dial-ins for 200,300,400,500 yrds that he needs for the match, so fingers crossed he can bring home another medal next week!!

The reason for uncertainty was, it is his first time shooting his pet load with homemade molycoats.. And he had increased his charge a little to account for lower pressure with the added moly.

Risky move a week before competition, but they grouped ok!

Thanks again for the help
