Bang'in steel @ 1000 yards Surgeon .243 VIDEO

Decided to take the Scalpel .243 out today and do some load work using RL-17.
Found a promising looking load right at 3100 fps that I will work on and see how it turns out.

I had some of my known accuracy loads that I wanted to shoot up so I thought I would bag some steel at a grand. Here are the results...

Take care,Stan

Outstanding, Sir! Sweet looking rifle!

I have a few questions if you don't mind answering them for me:

What colors make up the scheme on your stock?;

What's the twist on the barrel?; and, lastly,

I have a Dillon 550 that I use to reload for my .40 S&W pistols. And since I'm in the process of having G.A. Precision use my Surgeon action for a .243 build, I want to start planning for some reload recipes for it. Would you mind sharing any of your .243 recipes with me?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Pablo.

Not sure what the color combo on the stock it. It was what Surgeon had on hand so I bought it.

The twist is a 1:8. Length is 25". If it had been my choice I would have gone with a 1:7.5 twist.

The load I was shooting in the video is 40.1gr. of H4350. Lapua brass. Wolf LR primers. And seated about .020 off the lands. I am around 2950 fps with this load.

While doing some load work with RL-17 I found that 42gr. looks pretty good so far and was giving me right at 3200 fps. with the 107 SMK's. I am going to play with that load a bit and see how it turns out.

Your rifle will be different so start 10-12% lower on your charge weight and work up.

Take care,Stan

Good shooting. I think that the stock color is "Surgeon mix". Call Surgeon or Robert Gradous for more details. I have a Gradous rifle and the stock looks similar in color.

Nice shooting Stan! Those 243's are pretty handy.

Papagayos - Surgeon coyote marble is the stock color. It varies quite a bit. I have one with a lot less color mix. The colors are med tan, white, yellow, and gray/dark gray i can't remember.

Nice stick Stan. If I am not mistaken that was 5/5 on the gong right? The first sound was a bit faint so I didn't know if it was a hit. In any event, that's damn good shooting my friend.

Thanks guys...yep...5 for 5. Had a nice group going for three shots...looked to be 3-4". Then...of coarse...I pulled one and it hit high...about the throat area. sigh...

If you go full screen and then choose the 480 or 720 resolution, you can see all the hits.
