Gunsmithing barrel bedding: 2'' to far? pre-64 Target i

Found a lead on a Model 70 Target in 300 H&H mag. I haven't contacted the seller yet, but the ad says:
"Note: barrel is bedded for the 2 inches closest to the receiver. The rest is free floating" Is that to far or ok for that caliber?

Is that good/bad? Should this rifle with that mod still command such a price? Looking for a nice shooter, not just to collect.

Some isolated dings, but blueing is very nice: 98-99%. Some dings in the stock. No iron sights.

$3700

Probably don't come any cheaper, right?

I'd go to one of the collector's websites and research it...having been bedded, it isn't factory original, and the value is way down from a virgin. Sounds too high to me...but, what do I know.

From what you described that seems high to me also. Fill out your profile and someone my be or could recommend a Winchester Model 70 expert in your area.

If you are buying as a collector is one thing, if you are buy for a competitive rifle - pass. There are better choices out there.

Good luck

I would say that is at least $1K more than it should be for a modified target Win 70.

The answer to your question about where to find one for a better price is to keep looking.

If you need one real bad right now you might try to negotiate on price some.

Seems way high to me also. A few years ago I had a pre64 model 70 in 300H&H, not a target tho. paid about $1100 for it. sold it later for the same. I would keep looking.
