I am thinking about a Rock Creek M24 10tw at 27" unfinished for my .300 WM Remington 700 action in a McRees stock.

Bugholes suggested that this would finish a little under 26". I want to go no shorter than 24" if possible.

I am looking to run heavier projectiles mostly in the 190-220grn area out of this barrel as well as run a suppressor on it.

Does this sound like a good combo or do you suggest a different twist rate?

    Thanks,

    Stephan,

1:10 will be perfect for your application. 24" should get you almost complete powder burn with H1000 behind 208/210's or 220's. Certainly enough velocity to shoot as far as practical. I have loads from mild (2870) to wild (3000)pushing 208's in my 22" 1:10.

If you got to a 1:11 and somebody finally comes out with the fabled .73 BC 230 g pill, you may not be able to stabilize it...

    +1

1-10 will be the spot for the 200's pills. Also the 200 pills will ride the wind better than the lighter bullets.

    Nice!!!
I just saw a post for Krieger 5R barrels and now I'm conflicted!
I'm still thinking Rock Creek. I doubt I could go wrong either way.

    Re: Barrel for the .300WM?

For starters you cant go wrong with either barrel. Secondly I wouldnt go shorter than 26. I personally would go longer and then 26 and then set the thing back every 1000 rnds. Enjoy the 300WM, they really can do a lot.

    Stefan,

I have the Rock Creek, ten twist, MTU fluted taper, and it will shoot up to the 240's. Likes 208 AMAX a lot though, and I slayed a bunch of whitetail this year on a culling weekend with it, using a variety of different ammo. You won't go wrong with either the Kreiger or the Rock Creek, both are excellent barrels. I have had good luck with the Lilja barrels also, mainly in the lighter hunting contours.

    Re: Barrel for the .300WM?

    Yep,
Sounds like you are on the right track. 10 twist will do fine. built and Building a couple more 300's this year and that is the twist we are using. Rock barrels are GTG as well as Bartlien and Kreiger is you can get one.
My personal one I am building next month will be 22" for use with a suppressor. That's about as short as I want to go.

    Good luck,

    JamieD
