I'm building a tactical/hunting rifle chambered in 7mm STW. I will be shooting 140 grain bullets. I can get a barrel finished to 26" or for $45 more I can get one finished to 31". What would be the best length to get the best performance? I'm not worried about lenght or weight. It will prob be finished in a sendero contor.

uhhh IMO 31" would not be worth the extra weight for extra velocity issue. you would gain alot of weight for a little velocity. but then again i dont think ive ever seen a 31" barrel..... LOL

Well acording to the barrel weight calculator a 26" barrel would be 4.87# and a 31" would be 5.54# so not even a pound more.

You will definitely gain some velocity. In my case, my 32 inch barrel generates velocities of 300FPS+ over the loading manual velocity for the same charge in a 24 inch barrel. So, I would not be surprised if you would gain upward of 150FPS with that barrel.
That said, the rifle is long and heavy, but it's only meant for F-class; I would never take thix truck axle hunting or to play "tactical games."
