Gunsmithing Barrel removal

A shooting buddy that is a machinest does our barrel work, showed me a trick the other day.On a really stubborn barrel,he has a second person put a large cresant wrench on the recoil lug and apply pressure at the same time as the person on the action wrench.Has anyone done this,and do you see any harm.Seems eaiser than cutting and heating. Pete

That seems like a great trick alright, cant see how it would cause any problems to the barrel or action as the pressure is being distributed over 2 areas instead of 1. Cracking idea.
