Morning All,

I was looking at getting a Bolt Action 7mm WSM.
I know (from a friend who owns one) that if you shot alot your going to be getting new barrels for it.
Now, I've never had a rifle re-barreled; but when he sends his in, it can be way over a month before he gets it back.
So; does anyone make a switch barrel 7mm SWM that has a barrel change out like Ruger 10/22 or a nutted barrel or what not? I know that DTA makes a barrel switch system but DTAs just aren't for me. (No offense to DTA , everyone is made different and the rifle just isn't comfortable for me to shoot).

Thanks all in advance

Buy a custom action from Zermatt, ARC, Defiance, etc. and you can have a smith spin one up any time or prefits. Just order it in advance of needing it. You can swap barrels with a barrel vice and action wrench.

With a Remington, Savage, Tikka, etc you can run the barrel nut version prefits.

Tons of info if you search for prefit or switch barrel in the forum.

I would mention 7 Sherman Short Mag as an alternative to WSM, you can run it in a short action with high bc bullets.

whats the difference between WSM and SAUM?
Surprised your question was not answered. It's not my place to babble on about which cartridge is better or worse and I can not truly say why I picked the 7mm SAUM over any of the .30 cal. or other 7mm options. It was on a whim and it worked.

Perhaps the link can help answer some of your questions. It also has some load data with various bullets. Good luck with your 7mm choice.

Any barrel can be a quick change barrel with a vise and $75 wrench.

Personally, I would avoid barrel nuts and just get shouldered barrels.

Can you change a lightbulb? If so, then changing out a shouldered and torqued barrel is just as simple, you just need a barrel vice, torque wrench and action wrench. Or, if you want even simpler (though you sacrifice aesthetics), is just getting flats machined in your barrel. Hammer, crescent wrench, and you are done.

Every rifle is a "switch barrel" rifle. IMO, the whole "switch barrel" thing is mostly a gimmick.
