Suppressors Barrel Threading Question Opinions

I have a Remington Model 700 .30-06 barrel with a diameter of 0.663" diameter. I want to thread the barrel for a Harvester.

Silencerco has been extremely good about helping me on this endeavor, but I just want some additional opinions. They recommended threading the barrel at 1/2x28 TPI.

Does anyone have a barrel this small threaded for a suppressor?

Well, many .556/.223 barrels would be pretty close and the 1/2 x 28 pattern is pretty common in that caliber. The question is there a .30 cal. suppressor made for the 1/2 x 28 thread pattern and evidently there is based upon the direction of Silencerco. If not, you could use an adapter such as the ones Mark at TROS makes to work with a 5/8 x 24 threaded device.

thats pretty damn thin on the wall thickness. .100ish per side if you turn it down to .500 for 1/2-28 thread. personally i would not thread a .30 cal barrel that thin for a suppressor.

Even if the wall thickness is enough would the suppressor index off the muzzle? There wouldn't be much of a shoulder for the can to come to rest against.

The suppressor would still index on the shoulder, but a very thin shoulder will bite into the suppressor, making it very hard to remove. .663 is a pretty thin barrel to thread, but I don't see why it cannot be done. Consider a 9/16x24 thread as well.

Would the 9/16-24 thread give enough of a shoulder for the Harvester to index against or would it possibly bind? Would I be better off to cut the threads a little longer and use a threaded washer to create a better shoulder for the suppressor to index against?

Basically, I am trying to have a lightweight hunting rifle to go with a $750 "lightweight hunting suppressor".

Don't create your own shoulder. It may not be square and can throw off the alignment. I'm not sure about what barrel thickness should be used. Why don't you ask Zak over at thunder beast. He seems to know a lot of answers and has no problem giving his input on matters like these.

And remember the minor diameter and root cut (undercut) diameter are smaller than that major diameter! Typical undercut diameter for 1/2 inch threads is 0.457!
