Looking for either a stand alone barrel vice or some jaws that would be used with a bench vice.

Mostly would be used on coated barrels that i would prefer to still be coated after it comes out of the barrel vice

Would like to keep the price under $250.00 if possible, anyone have any reccomedations as to what has worked well for them?

Re: Barrel Vice?

As mentioned above there are a few good options on the market. I use the Brownells vice. To keep from damaging the finish, I soften the edges on the aluminum inserts, and wrap the barrel in a sheet of paper. A little rosin, and you're GTG. If you're interested you can see me using it in one of my you tube vids. It's under truing a Remington 700 part 1. My channel is suar08161991. Hope this helps. Good luck

Re: Barrel Vice?

Yes, Ive learned that myself.... Quality and savings dont typicly go hand in hand, espetialy with niche tools. After watching STR's video, I think the Brownells vice is looking like a great vice. I'll also be happy to be your phone clerk, Im not cheap though!

Re: Barrel Vice?

I use the TUBB vise. Love it. Great price. Got mine from Midway

start saving the cardbord out of your toliet paper rolls.
Cut the cardbord and wrap it tight around the barrel. Place the barrel in the vice with the cardbord and you will never leave a mark on a coated barrel
