i have a barska varmint 6-24x40 mildot and a bushnell trophy 3-9x40 milldot which would be better on a 308 bolt gun,and also im limited to about a 50yd range where would i sight it in at so it would hit dead on at 100

Re: barska or bushnell

Funny, I just bought a Bushnell 10X40 and tried out another shooter's Barska and I think it was the one you mentioned. Now, my Bushnell is not the same as the one you are thinking about but after looking through both just yesterday I'd have to say the Bushnell was a Lot better. Much brighter, but most important to me is that I had a hard time zeroing-in on a proper eye-relief on that Barska. I just couldn't find the sweet spot for my eye and the Bushnell was much more forgiving. FWIW

Re: barska or bushnell

Its tough to compare such different scopes, and it depends upon the purpose you are using it for. all that said i trust the bushnell name more but considering the relatively low quality of the trophy line (not that its bad, just on the lower end) i would pick the scope with the features that best fits the intended function of the rig and go with that until you can upgrade.

Re: barska or bushnell

also what would be a good not very cashy milldot to put on it if i dont like the 3-9x40 or a good fixed power that dont break the bank round 100-150 dollar range is what i got to work with

On my scope... And I think pretty much all the scopes I've used the crosshairs are still sharp but the target might be out of focus. But at 5yds I wouldn't use the scope anyway. Just point and shoot and hope for the best!
