I am in the process of putting together a 300 WM off a Mausenfield action and Manners PRS2 stock. I am planning on using the rifle mostly for target shooting at 1000 yds and beyond. I was thinking about either Bartlein Standard Target (#5) or Heavy Target (#6). I haven't been able to find much info on these two contours and was hoping folks here have had some experience with them.

I have a bartlein MTU (#7) profile on my 300NM (28 inch) which is very similar to the heavy target. Here's a pic to put it into perspective. It is not too weighty at that length and I'm happy with it.

Thanks, I think the M40 is a good way to go. Looks like 1-10 twists are out there, but not 1-9. Are you guys using 1-10 twist and is that working with the 215-230 class bullets?

I only shoot the 208 ELD-M and 215 hybrid. They both work very well so I never tried anything heavier. I shoot both out 1500 yards and have also shot them both at our local 1000 yard matches placing 1st or 2nd.

Take a look at a medium palma, i have one on a Clonish mk 13 mod 5 build it seems to be just the right contour, just have the barrel threaded for can, not the ardvark snout. The medium palma will be .65 to 1.15lbs lighter than a 5 or 6 contour, but offer a bit more meat by the shank.

I did my first 300WM with a MK13 Mod 5 profile, which is a 36" radius taper from a 4 3/8" long shank at 1.200" down to a straight cylinder with a 1.020" diameter that straight-tapers after 21" to a 0.794" muzzle at 28" OAL. Instead of the straight taper, though, I had AJ Brown profile the end for my Ops Inc 3rd Model suppressor.

RW Snyder is doing one for me now with a Heavy Palma profile, fluted and the Ops Inc profile with an OAL of 26". Should end up a bit lighter than the MK13 Mod 5 profile but be just as stiff.
