Trying to select a pair of barrels one for my main setup and another for my .308 shorty that compromises between a sendero/rem. varmint and an M40/MTU. Also would like to have a straight taper.
I'm wondering what OD at the muzzle a light varmint cut at 23 or 24 would versus the LV modified.
Also cut at 18.5 would either of the barrels be considered too heavy for a shorty/hunting rig?
I originally was going to use my factory take off for the shorty rig but decided I'd just get two bartleins and have both actions trued in the process or rebarelling.
My current 5R with my SN-3, DBM, and all weighs right around 14lbs which is fine for a shorty 308 to hunt with to me. It doesn't bother me too much for the type hunting I'm doing. I have some spotter rifles if I ever make it out on an elk hunt or something that requires a lot of travel.
