I've had really good luck with just the iPhone app(out to 300/500yds), but want to get it more precise by having the exact conditions of my specific location vs the nearest tower, and will be in areas that have poor reception. What would be a good solution in terms of value for my needs? I have no local shops with Kestrel meters to check out…

well, DA is nice to have, but temp wind and bario is all that is needed, humidity can just be set at 50% and never changed...
I have a 2500 and it does everything I need. Temp, wind speed, baro and altitude.
This unit does not have DA, but since I use an FDAC for my dope, it is a non issue, takes me all of 3 seconds to calc DA on my FDAC.
Other thing is the 2500 and other lower models use a 2032 coin battery, I am still using the same battery that came with the unit back in 2012. You can read about the other units that deplete the AAA batteries, causing them to leak and kill the unit.
In the end all of the Kestral units are nice, they have various features, but you need to look at the features you really need.

Have the kestrels Bluetooth been upgraded to comply with Apples requirements yet? I thought that was coming......
