So here I was saving up to build my first bolt gun, and now I've realized my head wasn't in the right place.

I need a proper go to gun, as a prior service marine (albeit pog)an assault rifle just feels at home in my shoulder. Something reliable beyond a shadow of a doubt, and powerful enough that engaging a soft or hard target within reason is not an issue.

I have seen people try and compare the MK214 to weapons like the GAP-10, but designe aside, their intended roles quite different. I think this is a proper battle rifle matchup. I have never shot a semi automatic gas piston weapon, I have shot many a DI. The local dealer (Scottsdale Gun Club) has LMT's on the floor which is a plus, but they are 16" weapons, where as with a 90-120 day wait, they could order me a PWS in 14.5 with a permanent muzzle device. Seems like the LMT is a bit more accurate from what people have said here--mostly likely a result of things like a free float barrel. But the MK214 is no slouch. I DO NOT need to engage targets past 500 yards (realistically prob 300) I DO NOT NEED a sub MOA weapon, just sub minute of man. Weight is important.

I have almost 2k in my pocket, I'll hit 25oo ish in a month or so and be ready to pull the trigger. I'm torn right down the middle. I have friends with SCAR's and ACR's but no one with a either the LMT or PWS so I will put my faith in the HIDE.

Re: Battle Rifle GTG: PWS MK214 vs LMT MRP

The "non slick" LMT MWS is approx 9.8 lbs

The PWS you speak of is 8lbs 10 oz

The PWS are usually generally lower costing than the LMT MWS about $500 or more.

LMT MWS has a lot of Different Barrel and caliber options too.

Is weight your most important requirement? I have owned a 16" MWS and found it difficult to shoot offhand. Do you have an opportunity to handle the LMT rifle at your dealer? That could help make up your mind.

The price of the standard quad rail MWS model varies from an 2300 all the way to $2860. Depending on the local price, you may want to go with the cheaper rifle.

If you have time you may want to read Dmack's thread about the MK1 series rifle. It is 5.56, but you may find information that may apply to you.
