Re: Bay Window Reviews

I'm, "Powers-That-Be " and he is getting on me for telling Orkan in another post about his <span style="text-decoration: underline">Bay Window Review</span> a term I use for guys who <span style="font-style: italic">"review"</span> scopes out the window of their houses.

What he doesn't understands is, I get it, people are excited, they have a new scope and it's natural to want to "see' how it looks and our living room windows are what is there for us to look out of. So, while he thinks its lost on me, it's really not. I just sort of moved past that with any scope, and really I am trying to discourage the practicing and forcing the people who do this out their doors and on to ranges instead. Resist the urge to <span style="font-style: italic">"review"</span> a scope before you actually used the scope is my real message.

So, with that -- Shoot it :

Re: Bay Window Reviews

Say what you will about Bay Window Reviews, but I thought the windows were pretty clean myself.
As for the review, I got more out of it than any other so far!
Orkan himself stated these were his initial thoughts on the scope and reserved other opinions until after getting a range report and that's done quite frequently in reviews and articles.

Lest anyone think I'm a fan boy of Orkan's, he will be the first to tell you that we have had serious issues with each other in the past.
That said, I can tell you that Orkan has glassed many a scope and shot more warm blooded critters than most and that includes commandoes with or without the chair.
So for me personally, I've learned to take Orkan's rough edges and set them aside, he has standing here imo.

As of now, I have not seen anyone that has had the Vortex in hand disagree/argue with his assessment of the scope.
He didn't blow the scope up, run it over or put it in the dishwasher, but he did give me a good visual on the scope and information that had not been stated previous, I appreciate that.

Granted there is nothing like getting the scope to the range to really evaluate, but the recent Vortex reviews here would suggest that a LOT of information about the scope can/could have be obtained from closely inspecting the scope before rushing out to shoot it as well.

In case anyone has not seen Orkan's last post yesterday, I'll post here FWIW

"Update... I have since got the scope mounted, and have spent a few hours behind it. I verified the eyebox "shadowing" effect I had been noticing, and it is indeed there. It seems there is no place I can put my eye that will give me a crisp picture to all edges of the ocular.

Look at the daytime images through the scope above. See that shadowing that is predominately in the lower left of the ocular? That is exactly what I experience in the scope. If I get off to the right side a ways, it goes away, but then of course I get a shadow on the right side... as I would expect. When centered up behind the optic, the image is exactly as you see it in the pictures above.

This is annoying. It makes you second guess your cheek weld. The disturbing part is that this condition exists at ALL powers, not just 20x where I would expect it. It doesn't cause the scope to malfunction, but it is indeed distracting."

Your message is not lost on me frank. As I stated, the "through the glass" pics were not an illustration of the "glass's" capability, I merely wanted to show the reticles at various powers and illumination levels on a target that was 1 mile away. So, it wouldn't have mattered if I was looking at a white piece of paper or outside. I never made a comment on the "glass" outside of that I viewed it to be on par or slightly better than a nightforce. I agree that anyone trying to make a comment on how the "glass" is, and then shows pictures through a bay window is not exactly an adequate effort.
wink.gif
That wasn't what I was going for.

Did I take it personally or give a shit one way or another about your comment? Nope. I agree with you actually! But, as I stated, my windows were froze shut, and it was fucking COLD outside. lol Fine, I'm a pussy and didn't want to go lay down outside like a proper shooter should have done. I can accept responsibility for that.
smile.gif
I don't know why someone would be getting pissed at you as a result of something you said to me... thats just odd. Anyone that knows me knows that I don't need to be defended.

Native is correct... we've went rounds. Never would have thought him to post anything on my behalf. My judgement can be flawed, no doubt about that.

I have ZERO beef with you frank and didn't realize there was a problem until you just explained it. So where this came from... I have no idea. lol

Be that as it may, I've spent 2 different sessions outside now, and several hours freezing my fingers evaluating my initial comments... and nothing has changed. Everything that I observed in my living room, out the window... still holds true outside and on the rifle.

It is what it is.

Re: Bay Window Reviews

I visit this site because of its wealth of information. And I know that its main focus is on tactical scopes, rifles and so on.But not all that visit this site are snipers or tactical shooters. There are many different types of shooters on here and thats what makes this site so interesting.

I dont understand why people attack others just because there ideas are different. When looking at a scope my main focus is low light ability.I use my scope for hunting first and at the range 2nd.Does that mean if you dont agree with me that I am stupid.

I respect that your needs in a scope may be different than mine,But that dosnt make your choice right or wrong for me just different. To me that is the same with a review of a scope if I can get something out of it GREAT if not than thats ok too.It just means there focus on there scope and its features are different not wrong.

I didnt post this to piss anyone off and if I did Im sorry. That wasnt the purpose.I know it is a privilege to be on this site and Im just glad to be here.

Re: Bay Window Reviews

I have no issue with Orkan, and he saw the joke I posted... and frankly the more people accept the Bay Window Reviews the easier it is for me to impress people down the road.

if the membership likes them and wants to see them, there you go, I'm all for making my life easier.

MagnumDood, just has issue with me making the comments, which is why you have this post. I have no problem with either.

Re: Bay Window Reviews

Bay window review is hilarious but true........any scope it a piece of equipment. Good scopes are hard to build....a rifle is a pice of equipment but its full of steel and so forth. Not refined glass and tiny little parts.

Personally just looking through a scope is like judging optical glass. What happens when its wet, you drop it, you fall with it. On and on and on.

When LL did the review with dragging the scope through the pond, doing the "tannerite" and so forth to me that showed more than hitting some targets and running through some clicks. I have no doubt LL can take alot of scope new out of the box....mount them on a good rifle and at 400 yards make his hits and at 100 yards hit the stickers. But how will that scope be after a beating?? Whether you spend $400 or $2500 any scope should function out the box.........but after hard use? Thats the test.
