I'm going to bet what that picture actually is of is some "private shipping security" on a ship going around a danger spot in Africa, getting rid of their weapons before getting into their destination port which does not allow armed civilian merchant vessels.
Can't stow them in a bulkhead away from prying eyes for the duration of the stop?

Pretty easy to build a “consumables” budget that includes hardware. Ships and cargos are expensive. Buying a dozen basic ARs at a time is not, especially if you can source them close by the use area.

Top bad Afghanistan is land locked could probably pull your ship right in and get first class brand new anti pirate gear cheap.

Not worth the risk of some over enthusiastic customs official actually doing their job.
Tossing $10k of weapons overboard isn't a blip in the overall cost of running a larger ship.
More will get delivered to the ship in time for the next sailing by any lawless places.

It's almost as though the companies that provide security to ships would possibly know what the easiest and most cost efficient option would be...

Let's not forget the laws that pertain to doing the job.

As for hiding them behind bulkheads mentioned above, they search ships in ports for illegal items and stowaways. Getting locked up over seas for weapons trafficking isn't a great business plan.

"According to Oceans Beyond Piracy, a non-profit organization monitoring maritime piracy, 40% of commercial cargo vessels carry armed guards. Due to weapons restrictions, their armaments cannot be taken into territorial waters."

A little common sense will tell you everything you need to know.

it looks shopped, but even so, why would you throw it? so it is farther out in the fucking ocean?
even it if is a real picture, it shows a complete fucking ignorant faggot.
