    https://www.foxnews.com/us/five-hig...-accusations-of-sexual-assault-lawsuit-claims

The first girl accused the boy of assaulting her in July 2017 at the swimming pool. Another girl, named as Megan Villegas, the only one named in the suit because the others are minors, said she was present during the assault.

But the first girl later admitted making up the allegations, saying “I just don’t like him.”

She allegedly justified her decision to fabricate the allegations during a recorded interview with school officials that was obtained by Fishman. “I just don’t like to hear him talk. … I don’t like to look at him.”

Some local irony... Our high school theater group is performing "To kill a mocking bird." First show was this past Saturday night.

We need to find a way to force those that make false accusations to face significant criminal and civil penalties.
While I agree 100%, I do see a reason why they don't. If it sets a precedent that an accuser would have the hammer brought down on them if they recant, they'll be even less likely to tell the truth if they are lying. Its bullshit because they deserve to be destroyed and then some. Perhaps something civil vs criminal where it would take from the liar, their parents, a school, what have you. In this case, take them all down for everything they are worth.

No punishment, no deterrent. "What's gonna happen if we get caught? We have to apologize?"

You could have a clause of going easy on them if they confessed they were mistaken and tried their best to make amends.

But when they are flat out caught in a lie after they have destroyed someones life & livelihood, if there is to be any justice, they need to pay for what they have done to the other person...

Either that or we clamp down hard like many European countries and say that nobody (including the "victim" and the "press) can name anyone or say any details about the case until it is proven in court.. but even then, just the having to go through trial and investigation may ruin someones life, so their still would need to be some significant civil payment owed by the accuser.

That's something I would be on board with. I hate to say it, but the new norm of guilty until proven innocent is going to pave the way to more lives being ruined and a justice system further flawed. This shit boils my blood just like civil forfeiture.

The issue with deterrents is of course you'll never know if it actually had an impact. Sure, in some instances there will be fewer crimes ending in conviction, and fewer being committed. That people know about. You end up with smarter criminals and larger crimes. And once again, if you use a stiffer punishment for these crimes the likelihood of one being caught lying will go down, and the likelihood of a false accuser admitting it will disappear. It's almost the same as the reason they dont give the death penalty for rape. Personally, I think castration and torture would be fitting. However, the survival rate of the real victim in a rape is high. If a rapist fears the death penalty for the rape, then why not kill the victim as well to eliminate witnesses? Different crime, same punishment, doesn't stop rape or murder, it just makes us feel better as the public to know they'll be behind bars for longer or get the needle. Compared to 7-15 years like we've seen in the past.

I have a hard time with deterrents. A few years ago, some elephants got out of the drive through safari a few miles from my home. They tore the shit out of some peach orchards and lawns. In an effort to take care of bidness next time they came around, I bought an elephant rifle. Its one hell of a deterrent. Sumbitches haven't been back since.

    Aren't most laws deterrents?

    Hmmm.

Laws themselves wouldn't be, it's the punishments that are. Fines for driving without your seatbelt, prison for armed robbery, and death (sometimes) for murder. Fitting punishments for those crimes. Take a look at Singapore though, you traffic drugs, you die. That seems like it would keep the average Joe from doing it, but in reality it makes the guys that really do it more dangerous, and their rewards greater. If rapist=murderer, there will be more murders of rape victims. If false accuser=jail time, there will be more rape convictions.

I like to think we're all pretty honest, stand up guys here, and the people I associate with in real life seem to be cut from the same cloth. I have no earthly idea what goes through the minds of these women, and I'm glad I haven't seen this firsthand. Its frightening to think that at any given time, so scornful woman can turn the world of another upside down.
