Received my new stock ( Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist )
When placing the barreled action in the new stock it lays perfectly, but when I tighten the bolts through the stock into the receiver the barrel touches the left side of the stock through most of the forend. Should I take some off the stock to keep it free floated?? If the barrel is free floated but not perfectly straight in the stock which I suspect would that affect accuracy???

Re: Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist problem

Look closely to insure that nothing is sticking up around the bedding block that's preventing the action from sitting straight. Next, check to insure that the barrel channel was cut straight to begin with. Yours wouldn't be the first B&C stock to suffer from either of these problems.

Personally, I've been burned once on a B&C stock (L-O-N-G story). While I would still use their products, I will examine the stock very, very closely before doing anything that would preclude returning it.

I agree ..... inspect and make sure there isn't something protruding that pushes everything to one side. If you find that isn't an issue, then there's two things that could fix this.

1. You can wrap some tape around your barrel to raise things up a bit and then bed your action and that should lift the barrel enough to clear the groove.

2. Wrap sand paper around a large socket and run it up and down the groove till it clears.
