Suppressors benchmade or microtech?

Re: benchmade or microtech?

I have always been biased to Benchmade but that microtech is nice as well. Either one will be a great choice.

Just realized that I haven't offered any help with that statement...

Re: benchmade or microtech?

Both make excellent knives. The microtech will be scary sharp right out of the box, more so than the benchmade, but that is easily remedied with a stone or two. Do NOT test the edge on a factory microtech with your finger...ask me how I know.

You can't go wrong with either one, pick the one you like better.

Re: benchmade or microtech?

Microtech hands down, I still carry my D/A SOCOM daily. If your looking for something a little less expensive, I would consider Emerson instead of Benchmade

Re: benchmade or microtech?

I've got a hand me down benchmade auto (from a friend who served and used the knife in Iraq). I carry it daily and I haven't had an issue yet. I'll be the first to tell you that it has been put through hell. It has a warn finish and chipped blade but a stone has kept the blade incredibly sharp (kershaw sharpener).

I say benchmade as well because of there life-sharp policy.

Re: benchmade or microtech?

I have several microtech OTF knives and several benchmades.

Cool factor microtech wins everytime hands down. Everyday functional knife goes to the benchmades. This probably has more to do with OTF vs folder, but my benchmades are my workhorse. Just my opinion.

Re: benchmade or microtech?

I prefer Microtechs if you want an everyday carry knife go with a socom or LUDT for more rugged use. If you want a supercool knife with scalpel sharp edge but a tad more on the prissy side try a scarab or an untratech.

here's what I carry everyday

Re: benchmade or microtech?

Out of the two, I'd go with the Currahee. The Nimravus is a nice blade too but I've broken more Benchmade knives than any other brand. If you want a knife that is close to the same size but a folder, get an MOD MKI.

Re: benchmade or microtech?

I have used and abused the Currahee. One of my favorite fixed blades of all time for the money. I actually don't like the new Crosshair as much. I also own two of the Niravmus. They aren't in the same league as the Currahee. The microtech feels like a tool and can be used as such.

Re: benchmade or microtech?

My housekeeper put my scarab through the washer and dryer and it opens/closes good as new. The anodizing took a beating on the corners but Im just happy it works.

I prefer my single edged scarab to my double edged scarab - the single edged are always sharper. Also don't try and sharpen the double edged models, it to much geometry.

Re: benchmade or microtech?

I'd say the benchmade. I started with them because of the active duty discounts with promotive.com and stayed with them because I've never had an issue. I mean gunked up with oil and sand(my fault)they still open everytime without failure and to me that makes it worth every penny!

Re: benchmade or microtech?

It all depends on your budget. I've got a lot of Microtech autos and manuals and carry an Amphibian as my EDC knife. Also have a shit ton of Benchmades and Emerson blades. All of them are quality work knives but the Microtechs are a class all their own IMHO. You can see and feel the difference. Once you have a Microtech you won't go back to anything else. Benchmades are great if you are on a limited budget but want a quality blade.

Re: benchmade or microtech?

I had quite a Microtech collection years ago, and as stated above, once you have a Microtech, you can't go back to other brands. It is Microtech, or full custom for me now. JPG

Oh ya, I have a Greg Lightfoot custom one off, that I will be burried with, called "The Shark Eye"!

The Springfield will rest with me as well!

Re: benchmade or microtech?

Nice, I have the brother of your knife Silver. A microtech lightfoot shark. It is an interesting knife in that it is an auto, but can be opened without the auto with the thumb stud just like a regular liner lock.

Re: benchmade or microtech?

Vote goes for the microtech very nice knives, although for the money I have been very impressed lately with a zero tolerance 301. I've used it to cut, chop, shovel dirt, beat erosion mat stakes into the ground. Still holding up very well. I've kind of gotten a kick out of seeing how much abuse I could put it through. Seems to sharpen well too.

Re: benchmade or microtech?

I only have Benchmade experience - My dad handed a Benchmade AFCK down to me about 9 or 10 years ago after he carried it on duty (cop) for about 7 years. I still carry the knife everyday. Benchmade rebuilt the entire knife around the original blade about 6 years ago - FOR FREE.

Re: benchmade or microtech?

I am also a huge Benchmade fan and believe the Mini Skirmish and Skirmish are the best knives I have ever used. They were designed by Neil Blackwood and although Benchmade does not make them anymore, you can still find them for sale in NIB condition..... they just garner more money these days. Outstanding continued customer service from Benchmade has also made me a fan for life.

Re: benchmade or microtech?

I've carried a Benchmade "Mel Pardue" #411 out of #1000 for about 10 years on duty. Last month is the second time I've needed to send my knife back for sharpening since purchased. I really like the location of the locking mechanism. I would definitely get another Benchmade knife. I would like to get an auto folder that is just a little more compact than my "Mel Pardue" tanto blade. PAT.

I have never had the Microtech you referred to but have had several of the Benchmade Nimravus They are almost indescribable for general use and give them to nephews who I hunt with.
This is a picture of the one I carried in Afghanistan for over a year and it is still in great shape.
If you are using explosives get the coated blade they are easier to keep clean.
