Benchmark and Varget is it true?

Re: Benchmark and Varget is it true?

Did a short test through the oheler 35P with a 308 once. Shoot 5 rnds fairly fast then let the 6th cook in the chamber for 1 minute. We were at a match and trying to determine if he should adjust for velocity change on the long shoots with high rnd strings of shooting. The 6th shoot was exactly the same as the others. I was amazed. This was with varget.

That's good to know, I just recent did work ups on 4 new bullets and decided to do all of them with Varget, so thanks for the info!

Re: Benchmark and Varget is it true?

If you want a really temp stable powder then H4350 is the ticket. I don't shoot anything that likes Varget, but I have had good results with H100v and H4831sc.

The Alliant Reloder 10x, 19, 22 are all temp sensitive FWIW. I have some 17 coming this week, hopefully I'll be able to get some rounds downrange with it soon.

For powders that are temp sensitive, yes.

Here are some results that another user came up with, look down towards the bottom of the page:

http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1299481&page=4

Summary:

175 SMK, 40.2 gr. IMR3031, CCI 250 > 59 fps change over 100 F
190 SMK, 45.0 gr. RL-17, CCI 250 > 80 fps change over 100 F
190 SMK, 45.0 gr. RL-17, 210M > 92 fps change over 100 F
190 SMK, 42.3 gr. Varget, CCI 250 > 14 fps change over 100 F
190 SMK, 42.3 gr. Varget, 210M > 15 fps change over 100 F

14 or 15fps over 100 degrees is pretty insignificant IMO.
