Bergara B14r with factory 20" barrel

Pretty excited to finally see them available in the states.

Curious about the 410 stainless steel instead of the more commonly used 416. Also makes me wonder if they're eventually going to release a Premier action in 22lr. I went Vudoo because I didn't like the B14R barrels and for that little bit smoother bolt throw.

I’m sure the market is there for someone that doesn’t want to jump into the custom game. I mean you have to add an additional $400-800 on top of the RimX action price for a barrel so it separates it a little. Plus trigger..
I started with a B14R and once you break it in it’s not bad for what it is.

So you got one of the 20" stainless barrels/actions? How is the action? Is it any smoother than the ones on the regular carbon/steel barrels?
They have been available in Europe for some time now.

Can't answer for sure, it's my first Bergara.
From what I'd read, the Dremel was ready, but in fact the action is pretty smooth (better than a new CZ, almost as good as a Tikka)
Maybe actions are selected, maybe I was lucky.

I have to ask, the only place I've found these they're $1250.
I can get a rim-x for $1800 with a benchmark or proof.

I do love my 16" Bergara and it's a damn good shooter. But it was also $650 for the barreled action.

I'm going to invest in the rim-x. Because I can easily try different pre-fits. If I have 1 barrel cut by a smith I'm already at the price difference, and I can't sell a used one.

IBI makes a barrel that doesn't need a gunsmith. They head space and lock up like a Savage.

Been waiting for mine since October, at this point i am seriously thinking of just buying a regular barrelled action and swapping a barrel for a 24in straight 1.25 if the only difference in the barrel , new barrel actually makes sense as 20 is still a bit on the short side.

Where are you buying it from? I ordered mine from A&J in February and it arrived within the week.
Here in Europe things are a bit slower as you practically wait for local distributor, who orders at Bergara 3 times per year then forgets to order or Bergara has none on stock at the time ...................... Long story short Bergara service sucks .

But not to be outdone ordered a couple of 457 Barreled actions and everyone pretends like that product does not exist. 😭

Any more target results?

From a couple days ago. Just pulling the gun from the bag and got going. Bench, bipod, and rear bag. That 2nd 10 shot group was pretty dang awesome...the last two shots were the widest part of both ends of that group.😵‍💫

This was today. I was coughing up a lung all morning and heavily congested. Just did 10 on center then did 10 individual shots. The two upper left and right really got away from me. This target is a real bitch to shoot a score in the 90's for me. Shooting SK products.

Got my heavy barreled in Bergara in September and thing surprisingly shoots extremely well ,much better that i would have expected , altough i was preparing to change the barrel will do that to the CZ , no point in change if thing shoots.

Don't get me started on CZ457 , even worse dealers do not know how to order a barreled action so i practicaly have to get factory to intervene by going trough a friend that is doing contract work for them.

I picked mine up at the FFL yesterday. The guy there said "hey the guy with the heaviest .22 ever made is here to pick it up". LOL

I am looking at chassis and have narrowed it down to two choices - JP APAC and Christensen's MRP.

I saw a Vudoo in an APAC chassis and was struck by the OMG I gotta have one of those. The only thing bad I can say about the APAC is the price.

The MRP checks a lot of boxes for me, especially the ~$700 price. I wish the rear stock had toolless adjustments.

I had to do a double-take today when I saw the heavy listed for $669. The last I knew the 20" stainless heavy barrelled action was $850, sold exclusively by A&J. So I put the heavy barrelled action in my cart but before handing over my credit card I came here. I'm glad I did because it helped me consider the purposes of such an upgrade is and how well this upgrade actually fulfills these purposes.

I agree with Mr. BR. 20" is still on the short side. It makes more sense for me to spend the same $ on a 24" truck axle prefit because that will actually fulfill the purposes which I intended to 20" heavy to fulfill, namely taming the ES and SD of rimfire ammo and balancing my rifle.

First, an extra 2" on top of 18" probably won't do much for ES and SDs. It is my understanding that we start seeing benefits after 24".

So that leaves the issue of balance. How much will the "heavy" 20 inch stainless barrel balance out the B14r? Presently I have a 3 lb brass weight attached to the Arca on the forend of the HMR stock for my 18" B14r to balance 3.5 inches ahead of the magwell. I would like to get ride of that big chunk of brass. With the 20" stainless heavy we would gain around 2 lbs total. That would help some, but considering that additional weight is distributed more or less evenly between the breech and muzzle as opposed to the 3 lb brass weight out at the very end of the forend, it is clear that the 20" heavy by itself will not do a whole lot to help balance things out.

Since the extra 2" likely will not help tighten ES/SDs, that leaves the 20" heavy barrel to effectively function as a 2 lb weight that used to cost $850 but now sells for the low low of $669. I can think of better ways to spend money.

So I am going to pass on what is a tempting purchase. It's great that Bergara responded to the desires of comp shooters by offering a heavier barrelled action, but they should have just gone all out and made that bitch a 24" long 1.25" straight contour beast. Make the "heavy" actually HEAVY. That's what most of us really want. Am I wrong?

To be fair you can balance the Heavy no problem , but still one has to wonder why Bergara would skip the obvious use a straight 24 and be done with. Its not like it would cost them anything more

Remember on last IPRF worlds 20' was like most used for no good reason. I expect when we are in UK on this years worlds 24 straight will be all the hotness and manufacturers limp behind with 20' at least till next year.

*Paid 1050 Eur for mine ,650$ is a steal .Only bought it as a mule for stock development but its shoots extremely good, so much so that i dropped in a Fabio Fare Veloce HD trigger and will kit it out with my new stock to get it race ready, originaly had not plans for it beyond mule work.
