Hey fellas im looking into another rifle, i have narrowed it down to either the Bergara b14 hmr or taking my rem 700 sa 243 and converting into a 6mm creedmoor with a m40 stock... rifle will be used for prs. What say you???

Personally I say build up your current action. You can build it exactly how you want it from trigger you want, to the barrel contour and everything in between. I say do a remage barrel setup so you can switch out the barrel with ease after its toast and you don’t need to spend the extra money for a shouldered barrel from a smith.

Thats what i was thinking, i would have prob almost 700.00 in a barrel and stock. I was just thinking maybe a custom barrel would be more consistently accurate than a production barrel to some degree, idk maybe im wrong as there is acceptions to every rule.

My Sps action sure isnt the best and im am sure the bergara action is nicer. Just wished the sps action was blued not than matte rough finish that comes on it.

True, unless go with a custom action but then you’re into a whole other world of price unless you bought a new one hole donor rifle for just that action and then it’s sorta a wash depending on what action you got. I ended up doing a bighorn origin build after realizing I was just going to scrap everything except the action if I bought a factory 700

I'd take a stock 700 with a quality aftermarket barrel on it over a Bergara any day of the week. If you're going to make any mods, thread the handle and pinned lugs are nice for future barrel replacements, especially if you end up with a bedded stock.
Belle and Carlson makes decent stuff for the price. I think they may have started offering M5 pattern trigger guard inlets for DBM's also.

They have started offering stuff with the M5 patter bottom metal and if they don’t I know CDI will inlet a stock for their bottom metal for I believe free or a very small fee

Thats what i was thinking, just wished my 700 action was alittle more refined and polished. I was looking into custom actions but its just too much for me. Figured if i get a remage barrel and a bell and carlson style4 m40 stock id have a pretty nice setup. Plus i can always sell the stock barrel. I junked the factory stock trying to make it into something its not. I am just curious as to what accuracy consistency difference i could expect from a custom 700 vs the bergara b14 hmr? Heck maybe it would be much different between the two. I never bought a custom barrel before so i am just going by speculation.

You can always have your action cerakoted and have them microslick the bolt but it’s an added experience. Now B14’s work, but I have a few guys I shoot matches with have issues when the barrel get hot on long strings of fire it will begin to walk a bit. Now a custom barrel that’s been stress relieved will have almost no issues with long strings of fire. I’ve shot out one 6creed barrel and working on my second barrel currently both are rock creek button rifled, both are absolute hammers shooting well under a .5 group even with my iffy loads in the beginning.

Thats the caliber i want is 6mm creedmoor, and also bergara barrels seem kinda short. That was one of my concerns was getting a bergara and after 5 shots the hits start walking on me. I been through 2 rifles that just dont shoot like i want, could always get sub moa, even my 243 its was a .75 moa consistently and occasionally .5 moa, but shots start moving after 5 shots. I want a gun that shoots .5 moa or less consistently. What barrel would you reccomend? And what barrel life do you see out of your 6mm?

I understand that, I went from running savages for a while and they are solid .75 hammers but I wanted something a little more of a tack driver. I’ve only run the rock river barrels personally but I like them to the point I had a 6Dasher spun up in one. I’ve heard great things about criterion barrels one of the top guys regionally runs them, x-caliber makes good stuff, I’ve heard good things about preferred barrel blanks as well.

First barrel I pulled at 1000 just because I was pushing 105 hybrids right around 3150 with H4350 and that’s know to eat barrels quickly in a match setting. It was still a tack driver at that point but I didn’t have it to drop off in the middle of a important match. The second one I’m at 400 switched to 115 dtacs and hybrid 100v, so its right around 2950 but should be good for a bit higher round count.

90% of accuracy is in the barrel. Criterion remage barrels are on the lower end of the spectrum, but I'd still expect one on a bone stock action to outshoot a Bergara.

Well i think you fellas bout have me talked into just going idk i guess you could say semi custom route. I was looking into preffered barrel blanks cause i can send my barreled action and they will install it for me. Will i be able to run the 6mm creedmoor from the stock 700 mag? Well its a hinged floor plate? Also i read up on people twisting 700 actions trying to get the factory barrel off, hopefully the guys at prefered barrel blanks know what they are doing. Dont really have any competent gun smiths in my neck of the woods...

The 6cm will feed from a blind box mag, you might be a little limited with mag length but it shouldn’t be an issue. I’m sure the smiths over at preferred have a few trick up their sleeve to get a stubborn barrel off with out doing damage.

Look at Northland shooters supply. The Remage Criterion prefits are tough to beat. By going Remage you allow yourself easy barrel changed when you torch that 6cm barrel. Give them a call and James can definitely help you along the way.

Ok fellas i will do that, last year i joined a prs club but never got to shoot cause of fussy rifles. Maybe after i get this one done ill be set for competition.

Really??? Well that sucks... i have about 200 or 300 rounds through the rifle, maybe it will smooth itsself in time. I found another stock i might try also, its a choate tactical stock. Looks pretty good gets good reviews. I had a choate sniper stock along time ago and it was pretty nice for the money. The guys at Prefered barrels got back to me, they seem like good people and answered all my questions very fast always had email waiting on me the next day. Good customer servise so far. Heck im still waiting for emails from rcbs thats been almost 4 days ago...

Honestly, I've seen most actions get gummed up from Teflon type coatings on the inside.
I haven’t heard of the microslick gumming up in an action, I know it’s not impervious to scratches/flake if you do the air cure version but the baked version is damn tough to the point it’s used in many other industries to coat parts that need dry film lubricity.
