Searched for a bit and didn't find much info. Have some 168 vld's and some 4064 laying around, looking for load data from a Rem700 26"bbl. Experimented with Varget a little but want to use up the 4064. Anyone?

my bad. Federal cases mostly and a bit of WCC brass as well.

Re: Berger 168 VLD's and 4064 ?

If it's for a .308, my IMR-4064 load uses the 175SMK 42.2gr of IMR4064, Fed GMM Large Rifle Primer, and Remington brass.

After reviewing Military load recipes, I note it was common practice for the USGI Arsenals to use the same load recipe regardless of bullet type/weight, So I'd suggest this same load as a starting load for the 168gr VLD.

I obtained it from Precision Shooter Magazine, where it was intended (in the 175gr version) as a guaranteed supersonic load for use at 1Kyd out of the standard M14/M1A. I have shared it here many times, and gotten a lot of positive feedback, from bolt gun users as well, even.

Shooting that load for this weekend?

Re: Berger 168 VLD's and 4064 ?

My load for that is 42.2 of 4064 as well. With a OAL of 2.825" In my rifle that's an excellent load for 600 yards.

Re: Berger 168 VLD's and 4064 ?

You can't go wrong with Greg's or Victors advice here. It runs the 175's better than Varget, at least for ME.

I ran into the same thing with not alot of info. I shoot that same load with winchester primers at 41.5 gn. I know its not to hot but was accurate for me.

True dat. Loaded em at 43gr, 2.85" oal last weekend and had a nice .75 moa group at 200 meters, and shot well to 500m. Unfortunately that was the last of em and they are lil too expensive for my taste.

Re: Berger 168 VLD's and 4064 ?

Love this thread. I just dug up some Berger Moly's 168 vld's and plain 168's. Lots of web seaching to come up with a starting load for the 4064. Just decided to load a bunch of rounds from 45.1 to 43.5 in .50 increments, and test them.

Then deal with the OAL issue. Problem is, loading for different rifles. AR-10 and a 40X. Mag length for the AR and whatever OAL works best for the bolt gun. More brass separation to shoot the different two differnt type actions. I think that's the way to go.

43.0 grs of 4064, mixed brass, but primarily, BHA match headstamp. 5 shot groups into ragged holes, at 100 yds. That's all the range I can find without driving 4 hours.
