Rifle Scopes Best 2-10 ish ffp

I apologize for highjacking a thread about 2-10 scopes and turning it into a Burris reticle conversation.

We try to provide what the market wants, but you have to balance that with cost, licensing, engineering bandwidth, SKU proliferation, and potential size of market (2-10 tactical precision scopes are a small market slice). All of that is true for all optic companies, maybe more severe for Burris, since we are fairly small. I don't personally have anything to do with reticle decisions, but do pass along suggestions. Sky Leighton is the XTR product manager and he does read SH, and is very mcuh a part of this community, although he rarely posts. He will be at NRA show, and the Burris Team Challenge this summer -- show up and yell at him!

I now return you to your previous conversation, where you bash the quality of our glass and argue about whether it's 83 or 87% as good as scopes that cost twice as much... :)

I’m with PBWalsh. I would definitely be in on a XTR 2 2-10 or 3-15 with a G2B variation with hashes every half mil with full mils being taller and numbers above every other Mil 2,4,6 etc.

I’ve owned both the 3-15 and 2-10. I sold the 2-10 because to me the reticle didn’t fit my needs. I feel like the XTR 2 series is very good especially for the price. The SCR is fine and I grew to like it but to me half mils are sufficient for banging steel, whacking critters and I prefer less clutter. It would also be good in the veracity series, maybe expanding it to us mil users. I understand that we aren’t the desired market for that series but it’s a thought.

I find that my scope selection has become based more on tracking and reticle selection than anything else. I have not experienced a scope with glass so bad I missed a target due to glass. I have missed targets because I lost my reference point in the reticle due to too many hashes and full mils that aren’t numbered in higher winds.

Please pass it along to Sky for me as I can’t attend the aforementioned venues. I really do like the XTR 2 series of scopes and thats why I’m posting this. Thanks for being involved in the community and listening to us.

That is totally wrong, Geoff. I thought that we had already covered that rather than making reticles that sell in the broader market place, you should be exclusively focusing on reticle designs that I like. :)

Oh, and I do yell at Sky once or twice a year. It is a testament to his good nature that he still talks to me. Or to masochism. Or he just enjoys telling me to go pound sand every once in a while (usually deservedly, but you didn't hear me say that).

Going to add some 2 cents on here since the Tango 6 2-12x was listed. I picked up one with the idea to replace my trusty SWFA SS 3-9. I figure gaining illumination, zero stops, a better reticle, and locking / better turrets would be worth it at the expense of 10oz.

Just looking through these today. I have to say glass wise the little Japanese SWFA gave up nothing and maybe even had a slight edge on the Sig. The FOV at 9x was definitely better with the SWFA too. I might just throw some shims in it and call it a day.

Might be worth considering on your list if you haven't already.

If 3x zoom ratio works for the intended purpose, it's an easy call to make (at similar price points). Most people want a better zoom ratio, however, even at the expense of image quality, FOV, etc.

I own two of those of SWFA SS 3-9x42 scopes: an early model with Mil-Dot and a more recent one with Mil-Quad. I buy and sell scopes all the time, since I like to try new stuff, but I have never been tempted to sell these two, which by itself should be an indication of how highly I think of them.
