Best caliber / cartridge for 1,000 to 1,500 yards

7 PRC is a myth. No proof it actually exist. 300 PRC is almost as bad.

There is .300 PRC ammunition on the shelf at several of my local gun stores.
It's also easy enough to order online.
You can get Lapua .300 PRC brass

I suppose the Op should probably decide if they are going to be mostly reloading their own, or if they will be dependent on factory boxed ammunition.

Honestly… As much as I love to hate on Hornady for their revamped wildcats with fancy new names… That new 7mm PRC has really grabbed my attention for several reasons.

1. It is essentially a modern version of the 7mm RemMag, which is my favorite deer hunting cartridge of all time. Been using it 20+ years with 100% positive results.

2. The 7mm PRC’s average performance range is near the absolute max of the 7RM’s scale. That means it will produce closer to 7mm STW ballistics when pushed hard with handloads, but in a shorter (than the STW) package, that will fit better in a standard magnum long action receiver. I’ve also been shooting the 7 STW for over 20 years, and love that cartridge.

3. Beltless design, Low wall-taper, and a shorter/sharper shoulder produces a more consistent burn rate and combustion. Paired with newly consistent standardized SAAMI reamers means better accuracy and consistency in factory production rifles, and better brass and components for factory ammo and handloaders.

I believe you and maybe it depends on where your at. I personally have never seen a factory loaded round of 300 PRC in person. Cause if I had I would have bought it, built a 300 prc and shot it.

I, as much as I hate to admit it, agree. They have modernized the 300wm, 7rm, and 6.5 remington magnum. The 7 prc seems like the upper end of normal before you get into absolute barrel burners. 175 class bullets at 2950 seems like a no brainer.

7 PRC will do from 0-1500 probably better than anything else out there when you factor in available projectiles to reload, factory ammo, recoil, impact on target, rifle weight, wind drift, barrel life and anything else we want to compare. Sure, maybe it falls short on some of the big 30"s for spotting misses but if the max range I'm shooting is 1500 then I'll take it every day and twice on Sunday for all the other advantages. Not saying it's the best in every category but it's better in just about all of them that matter at the distance the OP was asking about.
