Best electronic earmuffs?

Re: Best electronic earmuffs?

MSA Sordin Supreme Pro X

SRS Tactical offers great pricing and customer service.

I realize not every budget can afford the price. But I have had my pair since late 2004. That is 7 years of extremely hard use (probably 4-6 hours a week). At the time I paid around $230 for them. They are still 100% functional, their digital sound is still excellent, and they have performed with zero breakage or malfunction. I would call $32 per year (still decreasing) a bargain.

Re: Best electronic earmuffs?

I am definitely not saying they are the best out there, but I have 2 pairs of the low profile Caldwell muffs and I have been thoroughly pleased with them. I have never used any of the MSA's but I want to try them out.

Re: Best electronic earmuffs?

The wife and I both use Peltor Tactical 6.5's or 5.6's or something like that. They are slim, farily light, and reasonably priced at around $80. I run them all summer in USPSA handgun comps, and most of the winter shooting rifles. I don't do anything other than put in fresh batteries a couple times a year.

Re: Best electronic earmuffs?

I've had a pair of the Sordin Supreme Pro's for about five years and love them. I recently installed a pair of gel ear seal pads and a good set of ear pro is now a great set.

I've recently been wearing them for as much as eight hours a day for up to a week at a time and I still love them.

I felt like I needed a spare pair for when I have friends and family shooting and bought these yesterday from Tactical Command Industries. They have a Christmas sale going right now and you can get 10% off and they include the gel ear seals.

Re: Best electronic earmuffs?

Have several different pairs of MSA ear muffs and I am convinced that there are no better options out there. Highly recommended!

Re: Best electronic earmuffs?

FYI,
MSA only imports Supreme Pro ear muffs into the US that have Black ear cups. If you see them with Green cups they are "unauthorized imports" from outside MSA chanels. If they need repair or warranty service, they would have to be serviced by the last MSA authorized dealer.

Triad is an authorized MSA dealer and we offer the headsets and silicone gels kits.

I love mine that I have been using for 6-7 years, and like Tony's they see some pretty heavy use. I usually wear foam plugs under them and turn up the amplification to high.

Re: Best electronic earmuffs?

I also have Howard lights and although they work well, they do not create a good seal towards the bad of the ear for me therefore does not provide adequate protection. Maybe I just have a weirdly shaped head.

Re: Best electronic earmuffs?

try pro ears. unlike other cheaper brands pro ears do not shut off with loud noise they surpress it so that you can still hear even while loud sounds are present.

So the ones that Tony refers to are "Unauthorized Imports"?

Re: Best electronic earmuffs?

"Howard Leight" muffs are pretty good and slim for the money. I have had many electronic muff brands in the budget bracket, these are the best so far! $50.00 from Cabelas or I'm sure you can find them elsewhere. Buy a pair and if you don't like them, I will buy them from you!

They are marked as TCI OEM, so I would guess they are a TCI assembled product and they will service any issues that you might have.

TCI is good to go, and I refer customers there that have comms needs that I cant meet.

Re: Best electronic earmuffs?

I just got off the phone with Tactical Command. Their current supply, whether green or black ear cup, are made by MSA. They are also listed on their website as Manufactured by MSA Sordin.

However, I've also posted a note that they have on the site concerning changes that MSA are doing to all their PRO-X hearing devices, of which the Supreme Pro is one, and the reason Tactical Command will no longer carry this model after current stock runs out.

That is one of the reasons I purchased mine this week. I've had no problem with my current pair for the last five years or so, other than the plastic headband slide breaking a time or two.

Note from the website is below:

--------------------------------------------------

PLEASE NOTE: Despite our protest, MSA Sordin has elected to make drastic internal and operational changes to all Pro-X hearing protectors. We have conducted extensive evaluation of the upcoming version of the Pro-X series and have determined it did not meet the performance standards we think you, the customer, deserves. As a result, TCI will be discontinuing the DEHP Pro-X as it will not be built to our performance standards.

Once the current inventory of our DEHP Pro-X is depleted, this product will be discontinued. We are very sorry about this unfortunate situation, but it is simply the result of a vendor not providing TCI with a product that we feel you deserve. We have found the hearing protection system performance to be inferior to our current model and the reduction from 600 hours of battery life to 200 hours to be unacceptable. These changes will affect ALL Pro-X hearing protectors no matter whether they come from MSA or other vendor.

TCI DEHP PRO-X DIGITAL ELECTRONIC HEARING PROTECTION: BUY A PAIR BEFORE THEY ARE GONE FOREVER!
TCI's OEM Digital Hearing Protection are the choice of tactical operators, trainers and law enforcement due to the quality of these products. OD Green OTH headsets come with woodland camo headband covers. Black OTH headsets come with black headband covers.
---------------------------------------------------

Good luck with what ever you buy.

Hello Tony, here is Luis and I just bought the SORDIN earmufs you recomended me while on RO PR1&2.

I tried Tony Burkes SORDIN at RO and really liked it! Besides the excelent sound (ambient and supression of shots) it is very confortable and does not interfere with shooting positions.

Thank you very much for your recomendation and we will keep in touch.

Story of my life. Not quite ready to pull the trigger on something and then I'm suddenly under the gun to do it or I'm SOL.

Guess I need to order them.

Re: Best electronic earmuffs?

I've had my Pro-X muffs for years and used them frequently at home, range and match shooting. LOVE these and hate to hear that they are discontinued (though I'd probably never need another set judging by how these have held up).

Re: Best electronic earmuffs?

I was looking at getting some elec muffs myself and notice many have low nrr of 19-22 db. Are you guys also wearing plugs? I assume with plugs you can turn up the volume to be able to hear when needed???
