I'm looking to replace my front sight post/gas block on my AR, looking for one with a flipup front sight...I REALLY like the yankee hill (have one on my M4) but can't find anymore now...I like the GG&G, but have no expeirence with this company...any input?...Also, this will be my first one to replace; doesn't look too tough-any suggestions/tips on replacing it?

Re: Best front sight/gas block?

Yeah-I have the same setup on my M4, but I cannot find any of those gas blocks...they are sold out at the moment. The thing I was really wanting to get to is how good is GG&G gear, and if changing the thing out is alot of trouble...

and if anybody knows a better one than the GG&G-lemme know...

Re: Best front sight/gas block?

Changing out the front sight base/gas block isn't difficult. You punch out the taper pins and bolt on the new unit. Be sure to use thread locker when installing the new unit. A loose gas block can cause problems. Sometimes the taper pins can be stubborn, but a bigger hammer will get them. Also hit them with some penetrating oil (PR Blaster works well) to encourage them out.

I have the YHM and it is very good for the money. The PRI version is nicer, but twice the money. Arms, GG&G and Vltor also make flip up front sight/gas blocks. All work, it is a matter of budget and which tickles your fancy.

Re: Best front sight/gas block?

GG&G is awesome. They are super solid, I have used their Aimpoint mounts and rear sights. I'm not sure about the gas block but I'm sure they'll be fine.

Samson
VLTOR
PRI
Young MFG
Mid West Industries

They are all good. The VLTOR rail is receiver height so it is usable when the front sight is down, although who would ever do that? PRI, Samson, Mid West Industries all make matching rear sights so that is something to consider.

Re: Best front sight/gas block?

I have the Midwest Industries flip up sights and am actually wanting to sell them. I had them on my AR-10 and with the scope, there's just no room for them at all so I had to take them off. I loved them while they were on my rifle--I almost wish I had another rifle to put them on...

Here's the post, if you're interested, let me know:

Re: Best front sight/gas block?

I appreciate the offer, that looks like a nice rig and a good price; but I want a complete gas block/flip up front sight...I'm guessing that .750 is pretty much the "standard"...It's a sabre barrel; that sound about right?
