I am considering selling both my 308's to get one premium quality large frame AR. I don't think I am going to go with 308 either, was thinking 260 or 6.5creed. I want it have a quality barrel like bartlein or Lilja. I have been browsing to see what seems to be the most popular is GAP-10, and they use the same barrel as my Grendel barrel (Bartlein).
Will be selling a M&P10 and maybe a BRO-PG15. The smith has a apex handguard. I want to sell the smith because I didn't realize I would be stuck with smith barrels do to proprietary parts. The BRO is accurate but have been having issues with it cycling properly and it is on its way back to BRO for repair, also don't care for the lack of foreward assist on the BRO, bought it lightly used and figured I could always get back what I have into it. BRO is going to "make it right" I mentioned I wanted to sell it to them due to the issues I have been having.

Looking for caliber and company Recommendations for the most accurate/reliable large frame AR that still uses magpul mags. I like the 6.5 bullet so am leaning towards 260 or 6.5creed.

I got excellent upper/lowers from Sun Devil. Check out their web page. Excellent craftsmansip with lots of great qualities. I've got matching numbers on upper/lower sitting in my garage. If you want one now, send me a p.m. They're stripped. I was planning on building them out. But check out their site first. There will be a wait. Excellent quality. Very good customer service. Carl there will hook you up. Just be patient.

Lilja has 24" .260 Rem barrels in stock. Grab one now while they are in.

I built one off a Mega Maten receiver. Still waiting on a trigger to break her in.

I really like the overall fit & finish of my 6.5CM GAP-10 but I'm still dealing with a problem, it has a penchant for piercing primers with factory Hornady ammo. The upper has been back to GAP once for inspection & testing and upon return it still has the issue. GAP has been keenly interested in the primer issues and has been more than willing to help out; they're waiting on me to try some different loads to see if that improves the situation.

The GAP10 is the most accurate semi-auto I've ever shot but with factory ammo it seems I have to tear the bolt apart at least once per mag to remove pieces from a pierced primer. Because of that it hasn't seen nearly as much range time as I was planning on.

I also recently ordered a JP LRP-07 in 6.5CM to test next to the GAP-10. I *really* like both my JP SCR-11s (best AR's I've ever owned) so I figured I might as well give their large frame LRP-07 a try. If a forward assist is a concern they can build a PSC-12 on a modified LRP-07 lower, the PSC-12 upper is dual charging (top & side) and also has a dust cover & forward assist.

I am thinking of doing the PSC-12 in 260rem. I talked with JP and they said there upper will fit on my lower. They also said the 6.5 and 260 (especially the 260) are best hand loaded because of the issues with the factory ammo and their primers having pressure issues. Just basing off my phone calls to both companies and the level of help I got from each I am making JP my next choice.

or stop being a little girl and hit the gym, the GAP10 isn't that heavy. the JP's are nice guns but still had to give you shit for your comment.

Are you serious? Weight matters to some and JP will shoot as good as a Gap-10 and is significantly lighter.... I don't mind taking shit when it isn't an asinine comment like yours, only little girls try to degrade someone for a difference of opinion. I think the op asked for opinions....so I too just had to give you shit for your comment.... Lmfao

I appreciate the opinions. I did ask for them. I knew I would get some that would different. The GAP-10 looks like a great rifle, but it is not as compatible with other lowers as the JP appears to be. The wait for a GAP is 10 months the wait for a JP is 10-14 weeks. The guy who I talked with at JP was very helpful, not that GAP was not also helpful but the guy from JP definitely knew more about his rifle upper compatibility.
JP also seems to be the more advanced rifle out of the two, at least as far as innovative product ideas.

FYI, the GAP10 upper is compatible with standard DPMS-pattern lowers. The GAP10 is built on a Hogan-machined lower & upper which are DPMS-pattern compatible. You can order just an upper from GAP and put it on a DPMS-compatible lower but the upper to lower fit and "blending" will look the best when using a Hogan/GAP lower.

The handguard & rail system on the GAP10 is really stout and the fit, finish, and match between the upper and lower is very good on my rifle.

The overall finish on the upper/lower is a little better on the JP although JP's upper to lower fit may be too tight for some people (I need a tool to push the rear takedown pin in and out on both my SCR-11s.) The JP bolt & carrier are like jewelery and the side charging handle is very well executed.

I'm looking forward to receiving my LRP-07 and shooting it side by side with the GAP10 for an accuracy comparison. The accuracy of my GAP-10 is a known and is excellent-- based on experience with my SCR-11's I have very high expectations for the LRP-07 in every aspect.

You could go with one of the "favorite" builders mentioned here, however; you must remember David Tubb won the nationals with an SR-25 (6.5/08 as it was call then). I'm sure the other guns being discussed here would easily outshoot David Tubbs gun, as a few years have past, but maybe not......

Regalkismet, I'm pretty sure BigJoe29 did not mean it negatively. We all love guns on here and people make jokes. Stay light.

As far a large frame AR, I own a GAP 10 and am looking to order the JP LRP-07. Both have there advantages with one of JPs being its weight. I have heard nothing negative about either, they both make excellent products and back up what they make so neither will let you down.

Go with either Gap-10 or JP LRP-07, Jp is lighter but both are excellent rifles. I got the JP because I wanted to keep the weight down, plus I love the side charger.

I agree...... While my post count would lead you to believe I'm new, I'm not, I was one of the unfortunate ones that had their post count wiped clean..... Both rifles are top notch.

+I just ordered an LRP-07 in .260 yesterday. 12 week build time was quoted. I'm pretty jacked. While waiting in line at the local shop I ordered it from, one of the other customers has a GAP-10 in 6 Creedmoor, and said there was another one on the FS section here on the Hide for a damn good price. I'm a .260 guy anyway, but that 6CM would be damn fun too.

What does the JP 22" (.260 or 6.5 Creed) weigh, exactly? I was considering one till someone told me they weighed 14 lbs without optics and bipod. That was much heavier than I expected since I keep hearing that JPs are light for a large frame.

The new LRP-07 military upper has a forward assist as well as the dust cover. I have seen a few people that just recently received rifles that got that upgrade as a little surprise. Cant remember if aI saw the picture on here or another forum.

It was here, this one! CKruse

The M&P can accept a DPMS pattern barrel from the after market if you want to mod the S&W proprietary bolt.
The Bolt will need to have the lugs tapered from the root to the lands.

Right on. That makes me happy. Well maybe I will keep it. So if I get a new barrel make sure it comes with a matching bolt? Bolt carrier? I have been happy with the smith as far a as functionality. Thanks for the info on that, you just saved my first AR308 from being liquidated.

The DPMS bolts have a taper on the lugs on the bolts, the barrel extensions have a corresponding taper also.
The S&W bolts do not have any taper and are the same thickness from root to land.
I don't have any before pics of the S&W bolts lugs.

The S&W bolts also have a larger tail where they make a gas seal in the carrier.
The DPMS bolt on the left has a smaller one , so one could not be dropped in without bushing and contouring the radius.

Do this mod to the S&W bolt at your peril because S&W does not sell the bolts seperatly, they would require the whole rifle back I believe.
The headspacing turned out with the aftermarket barrel and the rifle cycles fine after adding the taper to the S&W bolt.
Now it goes to load development this weekend.

Will a DPMS style bolt carrier work so I can leave the smith bolt and carrier alone? I would replace the gas system at least the block to a adjustable one. I am interested in the JP low mass bolt and carrier.

    No love for Larue?

I too am curious about the DPMS carrier in the M&P 10. I picked one up to build off of and I was also looking at the JP low mass carrier. Just a bit pricey to buy and hope it functions.
