I'm looking to share my Bushnell HDMR that lives in a ADM straight up QD mount normally attached to my bolt gun on a 20 MOA base to my long range AR15. At this point the mount is tall enough to clear the hand guard without any issues so I don't need a raiser, but I may need to extent the receiver rail some to get it far enough forward. I might just see if I can push the optic all the way forward in the mount and call it good if I can deal with the stock length being a little longer on the AR. But I have a couple questions...
1) If I need a way to get the optic farther forward on an AR15 receiver would it be acceptable to use part of the Troy hand guard (Not monolithic of course) to support part of the clamping surface of the ADM mount IF the recoil lug remains on the receiver and not the hand guard. At what point will pressure on the hand guard affect the zero of the optic?
2) If option 1 is not acceptable, who makes the best and lowest receiver extension that will give me some additional room. I know EGW makes one but is there anything better. How well do these type raiser/extenders hold up?
3) If both these options suck, should I just switch to a cantilevered mount for the optic and see if I can run it all the way back on the base of the bolt gun?
4) What is the best way to share after I get the mounting situation taken care of? Can I just figure out how many clicks will need to be turned between guns when moving back and forth to maintain zero or am I pretty much stuck doing a full rezero of the optic each time I move it from gun to gun?
Thanks for the help.
