Can someone please tell me what I have?

While I have been shooting for many years, I have never owned a rifle with a bipod mount so my knowledge is limited in this area.

Now, I have one.

Seems like every thing I see uses some type of rail mount, nothing like this.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Re: Bipod Mount Identification

You know, that is one hell of an interesting picture....Please give me a shot of the dimension between the lower modified pin and the barrel (in other words a side shot).

What I think I am looking at is a brilliant way to allow for a Parker Hale (or Versapod) to rotate around the core shaft and lock at any angle of rotation when required, but when solid horizontal is required, all one does is loosen, set to 180, slide the bipod rearward and tighten up. Modifications would need to be made to the yoke head of the bipod. If it isn't, well it sure makes interested minds wonder.

Please tell me more about where that rifle came from.

David, check this out....

Please see photos added to original post.

There is 1/4" between the barrel and the mount. Maybe a hair more.

This is a 500 Whisper built by SSK. It's not new to me so I don't know all the particulars of the build. I'm at least, the third owner. As brass is a pain to make, I can see why some might be put off.

I am currently working up some cast bullet loads using a 650gr Hooch mold. I'm limited to 230yds and the inital accuracy is promising.

I'm mainly interested in it because it's suppressed. The can is in my state and if BATFE doesen't drag their feet (more than normal) I should have it early next month.

A bipod on this spigot would be nice but if this turns out to be too difficult, I will move on to something else.

Re: Bipod Mount Identification

dead-bird,

That Bipod mount looks like the one on McMillan's TAC-50. The TAC-50 comes with a steel Bipod. Maybe give them a call....

Re: Bipod Mount Identification

Dick Davis from McMillans says:

"Sorry, but no this is not one of our tac-50 studs. I don't recognize it by maker but am pretty sure it is a custom mounting stud made to fit the standard Military or Springfield M14 bipod. The dual diameters and flat on the bottom sort of look like what is required for this."
