I see Harris is the popular choice in this category. I'm thinkin 6'-9'. Since I won't be shooting really really long distance I don't think I would need anything bigger than that. Is the standard bipod the way if comes a pretty easy to disconnect system? I plan on going back and forth from prone to bench a lot is why I ask.

Re: Bipod Questions

The quick release is for if you run a rail on your rifle. The Harris attaches to the sling stud, which most rifles have. If you're set on a 6-9"Harris, look at the notch leg over the smooth leg. The notch costs a little more, but you get what you pay for.

Re: Bipod Questions

All good info. I remember when I had no idea how a bipod attached. I didnt want to ask the question. If your rifle has a swivel stud the harris will attach directly to it.

The height of the bipod has absolutely nothing to do with the distance that you shoot the rifle to.

There is simply zero relationship between the two.

Re: Bipod Questions

Triad Tactical has the best prices on them, that I've seem.

I would also suggest this (Pod Lock):

And read this (smooth vs notched):

In summary, the 6-9 swivel, notched, with Pod Lock is what you want.

Re: Bipod Questions

Harris is good but if you spend much time on here, install a rail and get an Atlas now. Trust me it will save you time and headaches in the long run. And it can be purchased with a qd mount on it.

Re: Bipod Questions

I looked at the Atlas bi-pod for my latest project but there were things about it I did not lik. .
I could not see how it swiveled to correct for cant although I think it does .
I did not like the lean forward position as under recoil it seemed to dig in.
It seemed to me to be much harder to adjust the leg positions while behind the gun than a Harris
It does look well made but I still prefer the Harris BRMS bipod .
I have found any altering of how the bi-pod stands on the ground will alter POI down range to some degree. I like the consistant foot print conventional Harris setup. JMHO

Re: Bipod Questions

the notches in leg allow you to adj legs for camber ie un even ground. the longer bi pods are for different shooting positions such as seated where the rifle need to be much higher. youll get some shit by asking these questions but in between youll get answers also. keep asking questions

Re: Bipod Questions

Harris is GTG, I have used an Atlas.... I will wait and see, fad or it really works... I have not decided yet.

I you do any hunting or shooting away from the square range, and only plan on one bipod at the moment, get the mid height. The smaller one is nice, cause its nice to get low, but out in the boonies you need to get above the grass and snow....

Re: Bipod Questions

If the price is not an issue go with the atlas. I have had some experience with them and have found them to work great. All you will need is to install a rail for quick attatchment/detatchment.

Re: Bipod Questions

Go notched. I have one in smooth and one in notched. The smooth is a PIA to adjust when in position, as weight of rifle always tends to make me go further in adjustmment than I wanted...however, you're not limited to the pre-set notched position.

Yes, all of the above.
