The primers are hard to insert into the case even after reaming the pocket hole.I have other black hills hunting brass that is not like this. Is the black hills match crimped and if so,what is the bast way to fix this? There is some sort of ring(indention) around the primer pocket hole that I am assuming is a crimp?

Re: Black Hills Match Brass Priming Question

You uniformed the depth of the pocket, not reamed correct?

BH brass is Winchester and I have never seen any that were crimped, nice tight pockets are a goodthing IMHO.

Re: Black Hills Match Brass Priming Question

The ring around the primer is a crimp. Depending on the year BHA military 5.56 match ammo is crimped. The first year it was issued it wasn't crimpped (02 I think), the second year it was. I don't know what year they changed the brass but the 08 issue ammo was WCC 07 head stamped instead of BHA MATCH. All of the BHA has been Winchester brass.

I don't know if the civilian ammo is crimped. You can either use a primer pocket ream to take off the crimp, get an attachment for your press to remove it, or get the Dillion deswager. The ream shaves of the crimp, the other two displace the crimp back into the case head.
