Movie Theater Blade Runner

I can't believe they re-made this....
The original is one of the top 10... maybe top 5 movies ever made. Rutger Hauer's soliloquy at the end ranks as one of the greatest movie scenes ever.
Why re-make it? Just re-issue to theaters for a new generation.
Oh, wait... original didn't have enough CGI or lasers or Nintendo action.
But I do plan on re-watching the original this weekend....

Sirhr, while i'm total agreement with that soliloquy, this isn't a remake. It's a proper sequel. I saw it on release yesterday and it was phenomenal. It seems like a natural progression of the story and while it will never replace the original it was damn good. I've been going over it for a day now trying to pick it apart and there aren't many faults. People are pointing to run time but i honestly would've loved it if it was 4 hours long.
My only true fault is that while i love Hans Zimmer to death, (truthfully one of my favorite composers) he simply doesn't capture the world like Johan did.
^^^ Ah.... Thanks' 5R. That changes the equation. For some reason, I thought it was a complete remake. I will now make an effort to see it!

Definantly worth seeing, just watched it the other day. I feel it was a good follow up to the original which for a colt classic like the original was is not easy to pull off now
I learned an interesting tidbit today... Apparently, Ridley Scott considers Blade Runner and the Alien series of movies to be in the same universe, with Prometheus occurring 44 years after Blade Runner 2049. There's a series of three short films that Denis Villeneuve commissioned that were released (on YouTube) before the new BR movie opened, too.
Bladerunner is on my top 5 list.

I forced myself to watch Prometheus a couple of weeks ago and was just not impressed. It struck me as being very formulaic, much like many of the newer Alien(s) versions. Same/similar plot line, just re-hashed. However, based on what you guys have been saying about the new Bladerunner, I’m enthusiastically looking forward to seeing it.
Funny, when the original Bladerunner first came out, I couldn’t stand it. Over the years, it has become one of my top five favorite movies.
That’s most people’s reaction to Blade Runner including myself. First time I saw it I really didn’t understand the hype, and Ridley is by far my favorite director. Yet it subtly sinks in and you go back to it, again and again, and it just gets better and better.
There was a long deep deep explanation to Prometheus that I will have to find. I bookmarked it somewhere that changed the way I saw that movie. My only issue is that Scott didn’t continue where he left off with covenant. Script was a lot weaker in covenant.

It changed a lot for me when I saw the Director's Cut - and then the Final Cut. For me, the voice over in the original theatrical release kills the mood of the movie entirely.
Worst movie I have ever seen. It was two hours and 45 min of my life I will never get back. I should have gone shooting.
I thought the 1st one was awesome but was a little let down with the sequel. I guess I was expecting too much.
Understandable though that is pretty natural. It will never eclipse the original sequels rarely do. I think they did an admirable job though.
BR is one of my "I simply cannot see it too many times..." flicks, like Great Escape and Sand Pebbles. I will see 2049 before I die, even if it kills me.
I got to see Covenant while wedged and belted (I am 6' 5" tall) into an economy-class seat on our way back from Honolulu in the midst of some world class storm turbulence (as if the basic plot wasn't enough to drop the bottom out of my stomach all by itself). No repeat showing will ever live up to that one.
Despite very insightful critiques above, I am not a critic, I am a movie fan; and whether or not the two arcs coincide, they are plenty good enough for the likes of me. No movie needs to live up to any other, to my mind. They stand or fall, each on their own. So far, they're all standing tall, IMHO. I just watch them...

I have every version of the original ever made...I haven't seen the sequel...can't bring myself to do it for fear of disappointment. The original is one of my 3 favorite movies.
If you don't have a bitchin' home theater system, would recommend considering it in the theater, just to get the full effect.
