Friend of mine does special effects for movies, has a chance to buy a semi auto BMG(7.62). Asking me if I could convert to blanks only, but full auto. Sounds like trouble to me. Anybody know what the BATF approved conversion entails?? Weld on the blank adaptor, weld the barrel into the receiver?

Re: Blank firing full auto????

A live firearm is a live firearm until it is demilled to BATFE specs. Converting it to fire more than one round per trigger cycle is to make it into a machinegun. Its a No-no! Welding one piece to another (ie: barrel to receiver) is NOT considered permanent in the BATFE's eyes (see the 1903A3 "drill" rifles) and will still leave you with a unregistered 1919 full auto. Welding a BFA on the barrel, and the barrel to the receiver? That takes about 30 seconds and a chop saw to lop the end of the barrel off and be mowing down nuns and baby seals. DON'T DO IT. There are plenty of guys with Sample and registered 1919's that would probably be glad to let someone film their guns for a movie, probably cheaper than it would be to buy a semi.

Yeah, I was thinking I could just do the blank adaptor, have him fire semi auto, and the editor could paste in the extra flashes and empties. A welded spacer block in the front of the belt feed port, to keep idiots from shooting ball ammo would also help.
