Range Report Bore cleaning agent ? CR10, butches, shooters choi

Re: Bore cleaning agent ? CR10, butches, shooters choi

I like the Outer's Foaming Bore Cleaner.

Instructions say to allow it to stay for 15-30 minutes. I tend to consider this a minimum, and sometimes let it work for as long as overnight. Don't let it dry out.

Patching is all that's needed.

My .260 match rifle shoots about 50rd per session, and the patches tend to come out clean after a second soaking.

Getting OCD and doing a third soak gets the bore clean enough that a borescope cannot find ANY fouling. More than two soaks is overkill, and the bore needs a light, even coat of oil after final patching.

Simplest method and most effective method I've found so far.

My L-W barrel has about 1500rd down the bore and has seen the brush only once, to see if it made a difference. It didn't.

i use a chamber plug....pour in the GM top engine treatment....then go have a brew......pour out and save the GM and patch clean.......sorry....but i get ahead of myself sometimes

Re: Bore cleaning agent ? CR10, butches, shooters choi

Montana Extreme Copper Killer works really well for copper fouling, hard as hell on bronze brushes. They also make one called Bore Solvent(similar to Butch's) that works well for lighter cleaning that I use in my barrels that don't copper foul. If you don't use brushes than you can't go wrong with their Copper Cream, and for barrels that are rough and copper fouling really bad I use their Bore Polish, it comes in a surrenge. I used to use Butch's and Sweet's, but have had great luck with this product line.

Re: Bore cleaning agent ? CR10, butches, shooters choi

I use Sweets and Butchs, but I also brush. At time I have also mixed Butch's and Hoppes benchrest together. It is thicker and stays on your brush alot better.

Re: Bore cleaning agent ? CR10, butches, shooters choi

I used to use, shooter's choice, Butches Bore shine, Sweets 7.62, and Hoppies #9. S.C. was the best of them.

Now I use KG-1 for carbon and KG-12 for copper. Nothing mentioned above has come close to matching its cleaning power or ease of use.

Bill, I see that you didn't sign up for a course in "BOltripper's lingo". LOL.

BTW, I use Hope's #9. Happy with it so far.

Re: Bore cleaning agent ? CR10, butches, shooters choi

I tried KG-12 for copper fouling and it worked so fast I thought there was some kind of trick going on. I was convinced the copper was really still in there and had been coated or had changed color. In the end I had to admit the copper was no longer in the barrel. Nothing I have tried even comes close.

Re: Bore cleaning agent ? CR10, butches, shooters choi

I only use two chemicals for the most part
50BMG for copper
Butches Boreshine

Covers all my cleaning problems. Pretty anal about cleaning every time I shoot the weapons.

Re: Bore cleaning agent ? CR10, butches, shooters choi

I use either Kroil+Brush, or PatchOut, or a combination of both, depending of the firearm.
Planning to give KG-12 a try, to see if it lives up to the hype it got recently.

Re: Bore cleaning agent ? CR10, butches, shooters choi

I use the 3/4 shooters choice 1/4 kroil blend.

But lately have been quite happy with the results of Gunzilla and is compliment Copperzilla. Does a nice job on carbon and the best thing about it is both products are all natural. Suprisingly they clean well without having the nasty odor associated with traditional cleaners.
