Walked in the gun shop and they had several 700p 308s. Asked bout a 300 and low behold pops out with the last r5 milsepc 300 he had. Pretty sweet gun. First thing its getting is a muzzle bread and then some optics.

Guy told me to shoot like 178 grains out of it from georgia arms ammo. I was gonna shoot the 150 hornady. What's yall suggestions??

Your talking about the 300WM?

First we need to know what type of shooting you will pursue. Hunting? Target? Then I would acquire the ammo in accordance with your needs/desires.

If you are looking for long range target shooting, I would ignore what the idiot behind the counter said and do some research here to find out what has worked consistently. If you reload you will see recipes for bullet weights of 190gn to 240gns. You may see the most success with the 208AMAX. If you do not reload I would highly suggest a factory match ammo such as Federal. However, I would recommend you look at either Corbon Ammo or Dallas Reloads as both will take extremely good care of your needs.

Re: Bought a 700 r5 milspec 300

Sorry bout leaving the info out. Yes it is a 300 win mag. I can take a pic of box if needed. Its going to be a hunting rifle but there is also a 1k range here if I want to try that. All my ammo will be factory shot ammo also as I don't have time nor patience to reload.

Thanks again

Re: Bought a 700 r5 milspec 300

There are a number of factory loads for hunting in 300wm. I would stick with a quality brand, try different boxes, and go with what your rifle likes to shoot.

For long range shooting, again, use one of the match offerings available. Personally, I would choose Corbon or Dallas Reloads before I would go with Federal although Federal is capable of doing the job.

mine shoots sub moa from 100 to 600 with 168 grain berger vlds in hand loads. for factory ammo it might be worth looking into something in this weight range. tried the 180s and didn't get the consistency
