I've got one of those on my dresser half full of dimes and two in the cabinet, one untouched and the other 85% gone. Definitely good stuff also but I honestly think this EW is a bit smoother...

No Buffalo Trace, Sazerac Rye, or Wild Turkey American or Kentucky Spirit. I am looking at a 1/3 bottle of that Pappy Van Winckle's that is being saved for when Dave gets back on R & R so we can finish it and smoke some Gurkha Archive 1887's with it.
Sensei got real lucky with his recent buy while travelling too but I'll be danged if I can remember the name of the stuff

My youngest brother turned me on to the Blanton's last summer at the beach. It's a little pricey but damned good stuff. I'm still a Maker's man though...

When I get a new bottle of something I haven't had, I pour about a finger into a rocks or highball glass(because I do not have a good whiskey nose glass). I check the scent to look for the caramels, vanilla's, citrus, spices, oaks, and any other notes I can find. Then I take a good sip letting it coat my toungue, and rolling back. I get the flavors and as it rolls back get the alcohol burn to see just how the proof works for that bottle(107's and up do have some burn) then check the highlights after that. Then I pour it over four cubes in a Highball glass, cut the head of a nice cigar, light it up and enjoy the bourbon and cigar like it should be enjoyed. Pure bliss in the moment!

Bourbon is 51% corn in the mash. Rye, wheat, barley etc usually make up the rest. Aging in charred oak is also mandatory. Bourbon is th eonly liquor that has Laws mandating what it is. JD is different in the filtering and aging process, but Blanton's on the other hand...

I have the Jim Beam Old Grand-dad plant within walking distance of where I live, and you can smell downtown's Buffalo Trace all over the city in the spring and fall when they're dealing with their mashes.

I cannot drink Jack without getting a serious migraine. All I can figure is it must be the charcoal filtering or something. Bourbon though, well lets just say the bottle is safe if the cigar goes for 1 hour, after that that second pour is soooooo gooooood!

So far, the opinions on this site have lead me to buy Bulliet, Makers Mark, and Woodfords Reserve. Today was a town day and I captured a bottle of Blantons.
I really liked the Bulliet, naturally they don't sell it in Mt. Not too impressed with the Makers, and haven't tried the Woodfords yet....... Anticipation!
So far, the opinions on this site have lead me to buy Bulliet, Makers Mark, and Woodfords Reserve. Today was a town day and I captured a bottle of Blantons.
I really liked the Bulliet, naturally they don't sell it in Mt. Not too impressed with the Makers, and haven't tried the Woodfords yet....... Anticipation!

I've been the past two years, after getting hooked up with some girls from the Bardstown area. Now that entire region is one of my favorite places to go visit for a weekend (I'm actually leaving for there tomorrow). Beautiful landscape, exceedingly nice people (their women also aren't exactly ugly), and lots of good fishing/shooting to be done.
For you Indy guys it would probably be about a 5 hour drive or so. Very much worth it, IMO.

Wild turkey rare breed is damned good, love the knob creek though. The best hands down though is platte valley, its not bourbon, its corn whisky in a mason jar, good warm, cold, straight, or mixed.
I see the woodsford around, might have to try it.

yuo guys are in heaven..the best we can get here in Greece s WildTurkey 101 proof (I am hunting down old imported from US bottles, the the current italy made ones)

I like Rye whiskey (with soda) more. and i have to settle with JimBeam Rye Yellow Label...

My favorite. Its only 0657, a bit too early. Although you do have to start in the morning to drink all day......

Ah, the different blends! Bulleit, Woodford's Reserve, and Jim Beam yellow are all rye blends. Bernheim's and Maker's Mark the wheat blends.
Wheat blends offer a lightness of palate, smooth taste and easy drinking. Ryes offer citrus, a little spice, and do tend to mix a little easier. The typical Corn Bourbon's are so good to sip as one enjoys the moment. While it is almost sacreligious to mix bourbon, I have found a nice summer drink that is very good in the heat.
Pint Glass filled with ice,1/2 Lemon squeezed, 4oz Bulleit, or Woodford's, or JB Rye, Tonic Water. A slight mix, and enjoy! After a day of mowing grass, weedeating, and making sure the land looks presentable it really does go down well

I was sharing a few drinks with my well to do uncle a few years back and really liked the bourbon he was drinking. I was always a Wild Turkey or Early Times(if on the cheap) guy. It was Ancient Age. He said he discovered it in college when he was broke, but now that he could pay more, didn't see the need since he preferred it over some more expensive brands. Been drinking the same cheap stuff every since. It's about $12 for a 750ml around here. Only problem is finding it in a bar. As far as drinking it, I like a little citrus splash in mine on the rocks, maybe Wink, 7UP, or Ginger Ale and lime if I can't get the others. Seems to mellow out the charcoal flavor. Damn, going to have to stop on the way home and get some 7UP now

Now that someone broke the ice on a "mixed" bourbon drink I thought I'd throw this out there for the adventurous.
Try Makers and diet Pepsi on ice, with two lime wedges squeeze the juice into the mix then drop the rinds in, give it a cursory stir and sample.
Before I get hammered by bourbon purists just try it once, if you don't like it then you can come back and call me names......

I drink my bourbon straight or with a little ice. Bottom line is if you are drinking bourbon you are supporting workers here in the US who work at the distilleries. You are also supporting a Tradition of Bourbon making.
Drink and mix it with whatever you want....just keep drinking it.

Somethin tells me that between RJW, Phylo and a few others there may be another drought on good bourbon this year. Ya'all remember the Knob Creek Drought of '09 right?
I do know me and a certain SGM did our part trying to make another one when it was re released though. Man that was a lot of bourbon and cigars!

No worries, to each his own. I offended some when I posted that I prefer my Bourbon with ice and water. I drank 101, just over ice, for years. To me, you can appreciate the flavors of the Small Batch Bourbon's more when it is served with ice and aqua frio.
