Boyd's Tacticool centerfire?

I ended up with one a couple days ago. A friend had put one on a customer rifle and decided it wasn't bad....especially for the price. He ordered 2 by mistake so I got one of them. Its not a top of the line tactical but with some elbow grease and paint they work well and feel pretty good. Its worth the price they're asking in my opinion.

I put one on my 300 rum. I like the double posts up front, already mounted an atlas to it. I have shot about 40 rounds through it, with no issues. It only came in a factory barrel channel, so I had to open that up a bit. I would buy this again.

Have one on my 700 300RUM (bedded with Acraglass). It is a very well thought out design. Forend is not overly wide and has a slight curve to it (not flat bottomed). Grip angle is just right, and grip/trigger distance is also just right.

Rest assured that even if the laminate wood does get a ding (Your rifle's not a Safe Queen, is it?), it is still extremely rigid. Also, the laminate is easy to work with. Bedding your action or free-floating your barrel is a snap.

Mine was "In stock" when I ordered it. I am within their 2 day delivery window for ups. When I called after about a week, they said that it wasn't actually in stock when I ordered, and that their inventory system couldn't keep up. But they also said that even if the website says out of stock, they usually have more built and shipped within 2 weeks. YMMV.

I finished inletting the stock for the PTG bottom metal and I would say that the wood does seem softer than the normal Boyd laminate. There doesn't seem to be nearly as much resin in the lam.....still worked out ok. The rifle will be a 6.5X47 Lapua with the PTG bottom metal, AICS mags and Douglas blank. Looking good so far.

I think they feel real nice, weighted well and I like the design. You will be able to get a bull barrel channel if you want. Not sure you can get a better tactical feeling stock for $100, great value IMO. Order it, bed it and shoot it!

Bumpage...

How do those of you with this like the forearm?

I've got a rimfire Tacticool on a FVSR and two McMillan A5s, and am considering the centerfire Tacticool for an uber-cheap Savage build. But I have to admit, I'm less than thrilled that the forearm isn't a rounded A5 style like the rimfire stocks are.

I'm a little indifferent to the forearm because I normally shoot off bags or bipods. It seems to work well and if you don't like the forearm it can be modified with a rasp, sander or sandpaper. I'll post some pics of mine after the painter is finished with it. It is now bedded for my Rem 700 6.5 X 47 Lapua with a heavy barrel.

I think it's good. It's wide enough to fit heavy barrels, has a slight ridge for a good grip, and is rounded on the bottom so it's fine to shoot off sticks or improvised rests.

Overall I like this stock. Wood is easy to work with and modify if needed and it's light. Maybe you couldn't use it to drive fence posts, but for a stock it basically works. I don't mind dings and scratches on a gun like this, I made it to use it. Personally I don't understand spending $1000+ for a stock. This is a 90% solution for 10% of the price, so I put $ into what I consider to be more important components:
