I'm getting ready to start reloading and have all my brass saved from the last thirty years. I have Federal Premium 30-06 brass with the old red boxes ca. 1980 and the gold/navy boxes. Likewise 7mm-08 with gold/navy and the current graphics. As my brass is from different lots and different eras, do you think that the brass will be similar enough to work out a load without the variety adding to the frustration factor. I intend to weigh a significant sample to see if there is much variation in that variable.

For me, it would depend on what they were being reloaded for. For hunting ammo, I'd just load them up and go. For target match shooting, yes, weigh them all and sort accordingly. I would then use the biggest lot of weight sorted brass and develop a load. After that I would load a few on the ends of the spectrum of the sorted brass and see where the impacts are in relation to the "match load". If they are close enough to be acceptable, run all of it, if not, keep them separate and use them for practice.

Good answer! While I will be using these for hunting, I like accurate rifles and good results at the range. I am also detail oriented (so say my friends). I want to keep things tight and not have to wonder about why a load may not develop so easily.
