Brass

Re: Brass

Could you post a picture? I've had a few loads that had marks but the were not that bad so I use them and had no problem. But I'm thinking since you already shot them with alittle to much pressure, that their life may not be as long as say some with "normal" loads.

I'm sure some one with more experience will chim in. But a picture would be nice to show the extent of the marks.

Re: Brass

Brass that has experienced high pressure will give fewer loads, but ejector marks by themselves shouldn't be a sign to stop reusing the brass. What you will find is that the primer pockets are a lot looser on brass that has experienced high pressure.

I have 5 pieces in a batch of 75 right now that got the stout load during load development. I always know them when I go to seat the primer as the primer seats with very little resistance. I tend to segregate those cases and use them for sighters or foulers. I haven't really noticed a difference in accuracy or POI for those 5, but it makes me feel better to segregate them because I am anal. Likely I will throw those pieces out before the rest of them.

They had ejector marks, but after a couple of firings and tumblings in SS media, you can't see the marks any more.

Re: Brass

Over pressure is not the only thing that will induce ejector marks....normal loads with slightly too much shoulder set back will do it, lube on the case will do it, oil in the chamber will do it.

Re: Brass

The majority of what I run through my 7RM comes out with ejector marks. Sometimes they are more pronouned i.e. half circle versus a full circle. I usually toss brass based off loose primer pockets or signs trending toward case head separation (thinning just above the case head).
