Breakfast Today

I woke up one day, Obama just raised taxes on cigarettes, I said fuck that, I aint paying one more dime in tax that I dont have to,,, quit smoking and shortly after drinking, cold turkey,,, about 4 years ago. If your hatred for government is high enough and you equate payment of taxes with every cig you smoke or every chaw you chew with feeding the beast that wants to enslave you, its easy to quit... Fuck them,,, just stop.

Same. Eff em.

@Threadcutter308 - any advice on raising girls appreciated.....

I have 2 girls and a boy to raise up right. Blended family, 2 are mommas and my daughter.

The youngest is gonna be the biggest stress for sure.
Girls are both darn cute with blonde hair/big blue eyes and are going to cause me to need another safe full of shotguns in a few years.

Youngest one looked at me the other night and told me I was mean because I let her older brother have a little ice cream after he finished thirds on his supper.
She refused to clean her plate, so no treat.....

Vodka, lots of Vodka and an ample supply of tongue depressors to bite down hard on. Looking back, the least of our problems were with boys. Girls are going to find/date boys that they want, not who you want. Get used to that. You can only hope that they do a halfway decent job of finding a good guy, or at least one that has some potential.

We put everything into our daughter and made many sacrifices, to which I would do all over again. We are in western Washington/greater Seattle area and surprise, surprise, she turned into a flaming liberal with mommy issues. Our daughter's mommy issues stem from the fact that she and her mother are very similar in temperament and personality. They both are very competitive and hate to lose.

What little that @Veer_G has said about his experience with one of his sons on the Hide, it sounds like we have had similar experiences, at least relative to outside liberal influences.

My best advice is to remain active with them for as long as possible and do your best to instill traditional values in them. Once they hit 14 or 15 (perhaps younger ), they will start changing and want their contemporaries in their lives more than their parents. Get used to that as well. Once they start wanting/trying to make their own decisions for themselves (and they will), treat/respond to them on that level. If they want to act like an adult, treat/respond to them as though they are. I think they tend to respect you more. You will find plenty of opportunity to educate them on the pro's and con's of their decisions, but you will also find that some of the decisions they want to make are above their pay grade at the time. Those (proper) decisions that are at their pay grade should be rcognized as such. If you recognize their (good) decision making to them, they will view you in a less adversarial manner. Conversely, tell them when they screw up. And, explain the details. Don't just drop the iron hammer.

You'll come out of it on the other side and if you're lucky, you'll emerge relatively unscathed. That's if you're lucky. If you get some bumps, bruises and cuts along the way, it just goes with the territory, don't worry too much about it. I have seen some parents that have had absolutely zero issues with their kids, but they are definitely in the minority, at least around here.

At this point in time, relative to our daughter, my wife and I are living for ourselves. We put in our time, we invested everything we had, we worked our asses off, now it's our turn. With you being fairly newly wedded, you need to make sure that you are taking care of each other. My wife and I were lucky enough to figure that out a long time ago. We are best friends, lovers, husband/wife, partners and we will be with each other forever. No one comes ahead of my wife. No one.

How do you balance work with that? I've been able to excel in my field generally because i devote a lot of time and effort where other people throw in the towel. That caused some friction early on in our marriage and also after our first kid was born.

She seems to 'get it ' that the harder i grind now the easier it'll be in another decade or so when we can do cool shit with the kids at ages where they can appreciate it more. In any case, we're really close and everyone is happy doing what they want to do.

Another point of friction is how I'm raising my oldest son. With a few exceptions, whenever that kid wants to get his hands dirty I'll pretty much drop everything to oblige.

This fucker is already climbing ladders and changing lightbulbs on his own, lmao. 'See, babe? The more we put in, the better.' Best part was this light in particular he brought to our attention.

Tomorrow we're gonna build a transformer (electrical component, not robot from space)

As far as balance, I have always spent a lot of time away from home traveling for business. I have historically made enough money that she could be a "stay at home mom". It might have been imbalanced, but I married (or should I say, she married me....) a very smart woman. I married up. It has always seemed odd, but my traveling has never been a problem for either of us. Although, there was one time in 1994 or so where I was gone between Labor day and Thanksgiving, only home for weekends. She got a bit freaked at the front end, but also freaked a bit when I got home and remained home for the holidays. She actually asked me when I was "leaving again"....
We got through it without a bunch of fuss. For us, and I suppose we have been lucky, it has just boiled down to a matter of trust (and, having answered the question of who we want to spend the rest of our lives with).

We really are fortunate. Whether it's been sheer dumb luck, commitment, or trust, I'm not sure. Doesn't matter. My inclination is to think a combination of all three. I'm not the brightest bulb in the tool shed, but I've always remained totally committed to her. Same thing in reverse. I tend to think that is the majority of the reason(s) as to why everything has worked. My dad and her dad both thought with their dicks, so we had both been through that. Both of us have been and remain committed to each other and don't want either person to ever experience what our Mothers experienced firsthand.

Take good care of the kids, they deserve it.....One of the ways to a Woman's heart is to take care of "her" kids (whether they are yours or not).......You do that and you're golden. (y)(y)(y)

Sounds like we've got a lot in common on that front :)

Thanks for sharing.

Absolutely, my pleasure. The only difference between me and a lot of others is that I may just have a few more miles under my belt. that's probably about it. That doesn't mean I'm any smarter than anyone else though. I was never handed an owner's manual for this thing called "life" (or "parenting", for that matter). For the most part, I've just been bumping my around dimly lit rooms and taking notes as I go.

If in doubt, always do what you think is the right thing. Don't take the "easy" road, or take a decision that benefits one party at the expense of another. I know from experience that if you are fair and un-biased, kids will take notice and embrace that and they will know they can count on you in tough situations when they may come up in the future.:cool::cool:

Not married yet. Coming up.

I will let you fruitcakes know a year after.....

For sure agree on the last part about being best friends and being good taking care of kids.
We have plenty of challenges blending a family. Even just today.
I told Momma that life is only easy if we give the kids away and run off together forever. And that was not an option for me. I like this dad gig too much.

Good advice Threadcutter. Appreciate it.

I have other thoughts that expound on that based on my faith. Be a servant. Not a bitch, but a servant. Give of yourself expecting nothing in return.

Attention and time for kids, listening and getting stuff done for momma. Its the little things. Like an unloaded dishwasher or kids bathed when she didnt expect it.
And backrubs are always a good idea.
And flowers. At random.

My kids favorite way to eat eggs growing up. I won’t lie, about three of them for me.

when men were men they took on wives at 12.

It wasn't all that uncommon less than 100 years ago for 14 and 15 year olds starting out a family to be nothing out of the ordinary.
(Still actually legal in a lot of states).

By best friends first wife used to tell stories about how her Mother used to talk about her marriage when she was a kid and would say things like "Your father used to get upset with me still playing with my dolls".

People these days seem to think of humans as like "children" till they are in their 20s and "just turning their life around", but kids can grow up very fast depending on their environment and what is expected of them.

Yep. What is now ‘statutory rape’ was common practice.
In the 1800’s when your life expectancy was maybe 50, you started making babies as soon as the girl starts to bleed. If the man was much older and had means, so much the better. And the longer in the tooth the girl was, the higher her dowry so marrying her off early was cheaper.

Not a fan of bacon either.

My wife and I produce genetically defective kids.

Missed meal cramps do wonders for such eating disorders?

Dude my kids are the same way....no I don't mean they won't eat bacon. (Thank God they aren't that screwed up....jk)
I rendered the trimmings from a brisket I cooked yesterday. The home daughter said,"Something smells delicious!" I told her it was beef bacon.
She tried the beef cracklins and spit a mouthful in the trashcan. "Get out of my kitchen!"
Kids nowadays have an awful lot of 1st world problems. It makes me worry for their future☹

Mine won't eat eggs either.
I'm gonna try to feed them some scotch eggs.

You had me at ‘beef bacon’.

Yep, straight from my childhood, none of this whining about not liking the food.
If you didn't like the food you could just not eat (and possibly be rubbing your sore rear end while pondering the whole not eating thing).
But on the plus side, if you thought you could cook it better, you were always welcome to head to the kitchen and cook the next meal for everyone yourself.

Well I did grow up. I am happy to say I haven't had to eat hog sweetbreads and melts since I turned 18.
I gotta be honest, I love my momma...but that was child abuse.

@ArmyJerry

You saying I shouldnt get married?

I take your advice on ammo.
Not so much on that front........

@CMH I promise I am not married. Yet......
And I am pretty happy about it, so probably wont be able to keep it to myself for a year.

Good looking stuff!!! My wife buys eggs from a little old lady who keeps chickens. Biggest dam chicken eggs I’ve ever seen!!! You can’t close the carton! She types it shut with masking tape.

Sage wisdom

Divorce hurts...especially if kids are involved. Not talking about financially either although that WILL hurt.

I had kids from my first marriage. One has never forgiven me for divorcing his Mom. He is also a liberal....VERY liberal so maybe it is for the best that we don't talk anymore but let me tell you....it hurts a lot; especially, when you know everything that led to your divorce was not entirely your fault.

True. We have both been married before and know all to well the pains associated with divorce.

Funny how much wiser you are the second time.......

Back on topic, deviated today and had scrambled eggs, refried beans, crispy hash browns all smothered in some mild green chili. Darn tasty.

@OldSalty2 - guess it kinda depends on one’s opinion..... 🤣

sometimes stuff goes sideways raising a kid and working and stuff.
bet it still tastes better every time than what 95% of people call breakfast.

Agree brother. What passes for breakfast these days...

:)

But yeah, that bacon has to have a little chew. And the eggs, must have a runny yolk, thats what the toast is for...to soak up the goodness.
